A Game of Thrones
When Daenerys attempted to heal Drogo with Mirri Maz Duur's aid, his bloodriders attempted to stop her. Haggo was killed by Rakharo in his attempt to stop Daenerys.[3] When Daenerys names him Ko and asks him to become one of her bloodriders (with Aggo and Jhogo), offering him the great arakh she received as a present during her wedding. He is at first reluctant, but he accepts after the dragons are born.[4]
A Clash of Kings
After traveling through the desert with Daenerys' khalasar they come across Vaes Tolorro. While the rest of the khalasar rests and recovers in the abandoned city, Daenerys sends Rakharo to the south to find out what is out there. He returns having found nothing but barren land and the sea. She then sets him to pulling up the plaza in an effort to turn it into a garden.[1] When the khalasar settles in Qarth, Rakharo is ordered to pick men and women and explore the city beyond what the leaders would have Daenerys and her entourage see.
A Storm of Swords
He is present when Daenerys purchases and turns the Unsullied upon the slavers of Astapor. He along with Jhogo and Aggo led the Dothraki against the slave army of Yunkai and fought in the siege of Meereen. These victories added three new bells to Rakharo's braid.
A Feast for Crows
Rakharo and the other Bloodriders continue to serve their Khaleesi.
A Dance with Dragons
Aggo, Jhogo and Rakharo are commanded by Daenerys to use her khalasar to subdue the hinterlands of Meereen and end the slavery there.[5] Upon their return, Daenerys takes note that Rakharo has grown more tall and muscular, towering over both Aggo and Jhogo, and has four new bells added to his braid.[6] Both Irri and Jhiqui now desire him and argue over who he would prefer.[7] Rakharo and Aggo both led search parties to locate Daenerys when she disappears on Drogon's back.
In the TV Series
In the second season of the TV Series Rakharo does not return alive from his scouting in the Red Waste. His horse returns to Daenerys' khalasar with his severed head in a saddlebag, presumably he was killed by another khal.
