Gambling is a pastime.[1]

About

There are several different ways to gamble, such as playing at dice[2][3][4][5] or tiles.[1][6] The latter can be three-sided.[7] However, bets can be placed upon anything, including the outcome of a tournament.[8][9]

Culture

Gambling dens can be found in Myr,[10] and King's Landing,[11] such as in the Street of Silver,[1] and Flea Bottom.[12]

Northmen are less interested in tourneys and gambling than southrons, and the Faith of the Seven often preaches against gambling.[8]

History

During the Golden Wedding in 49 AC, Lord Rogar Baratheon, the Hand of the King, entertained guests with drinking, feasting, gambling, hawking, and hunting.[13]

Prince Daemon Targaryen was known to the smallfolk as Lord Flea Bottom for his propensity for spending time in winesinks, gambling pits, and brothels.[12]

Roy Connington was stabbed to death in a Myrish gambling den.[10]

At the tourney on Prince Joffrey's name day in 298 AC, several people lost things by betting on Ser Jaime Lannister, who was unhorsed by Ser Loras Tyrell, with Queen Cersei Lannister losing an emerald pendant which was returned,[14] Marillion losing all the silver he had won earlier in the tourney,[8] and even a Valyrian steel dagger was won by King Robert I Baratheon on a bet.[15].
