Culture
Longbows made of yew are often favored by Westerosi.[1] Dornish yew is especially prized.[2][3]
House Yew is a noble family from the westerlands;[4] their sigil depicts a longbow.[5]
Yew can be used in shipbuilding.[6]

Theon Greyjoy brings his tall yew bow with him when he returns to the Iron Islands.[7]
A Storm of Swords
Arya Stark travels through a stand of elm, birch, and yew trees in the riverlands.[8]
Donnel Hill practices with a tall yew longbow at Craster's Keep,[9] and Jon Snow uses a longbow of smooth thick Dornish yew during the attack on Castle Black.[2] The great yew longbows of the Night's Watch have greater range than the smaller horn-and-wood bows of the free folk during the battle for the Wall.[10]
