Dragon peppers are fiery peppers used in Dornish cuisine.[1][2][3] Dornish snake sauce contains dragon peppers and mustard seeds, but the best sauce also includes a drop of snake venom.[4]
History
[edit]At the winter tourney at King's Landing in 253 AC, sixteen-year-old Barristan Selmy received his his knighthood from King Aegon V Targaryen.[5][2] That night at the feast, Ser Barristan ate ribs of wild boar prepared with dragon peppers in the Dornish style, so hot they burned his mouth.[2]

[edit]In the shadow city of Sunspear, Ser Arys Oakheart watches a man grilling snakes with such pungent sauces that they bring tears to Arys's eyes.[4]
In one of Sunspear's towers, the captive Princess Arianne Martell is served a midday meal of goat kid roasted with lemons and honey, and grape leaves stuffed with raisins, onions, mushrooms, and dragon peppers.[1]
A Dance with Dragons
[edit]The Selaesori Qhoran carries twenty jars of dragon peppers.[6]
At a feast in Sunspear to honor the arrival of Ser Balon Swann, one course includes savory snake stew containing chunks of seven kinds of snakes simmered with dragon peppers, blood oranges, and a dash of venom.[7]
In Meereen, forty-seven years after he was knighted, Barristan Selmy still recalls the taste of the boar with dragon peppers.[2]
