Trout are freshwater fish similar to the real-life animal.
Range
Trout has been found in the Trident,[1] including the Red Fork[2] and the Green Fork,[3] in the Blackwater Rush,[4] in the wolfswood,[5][6] and in the Vale of Arryn.[7]
Culture
A leaping silver trout is included in the arms of House Tully of Riverrun, the Lords Paramount of the Trident.[8] The pillars of Lord Hoster Tully's bed in the keep of Riverrun are carved in the shapes of leaping trout.[9] A trout scaled in silver and bronze crowns the crest of Hoster's greathelm,[10] and a silver trout ornaments the crest of the greathelm of his son, Ser Edmure Tully.[11] Ser Brynden Tully, known as the Blackfish, has a black trout on his own helm.[12] Ser Robin Ryger, the captain of Riverrun's guards, clasps his cloak with a silver trout.[2]
A statue of a leaping trout spouts water into a shallow pool in the market square of Stoney Sept.[13]
History
Lord Medgar Tully clasped his striped blue-and-red cloak with a silver trout at each shoulder.[14]
Jory Cassel once brought Robb Stark, Bran Stark, and Jon Snow to the wolfswood to fish for trout.[5]

Quotes
During one of their louder quarrels, when Catelyn was eight, Lord Hoster had called Brynden "the black goat of the Tully flock." Laughing, Brynden had pointed out that the sigil of their house was a leaping trout, so he ought to be a black fish rather than a black goat, and from that day forward he had taken it as his personal emblem.[19]
—thoughts of Catelyn Stark
Birds flew overhead, or cried out from the trees along the shore, and Jaime glimpsed silvery fish knifing through the water.[2]
—thoughts of Jaime Lannister
Meera was a fine huntress, and even better at taking fish from streams with her three-pronged frog spear. Bran liked to watch her, admiring her quickness, the way she sent the spear lancing down and pulled it back with a silvery trout wriggling on the end of it.[20]
