Cod or codfish is a fish found in the known world.
Range
Great schools of cod and black cod are found in Ironman's Bay,[1] and the fish is common in Lorath Bay.[2] The western Shivering Sea has rich fishing grounds for cod and herring,[3] and Ibbenese hunt for cod in the eastern reaches of the sea.[4]
Culture
Salt cod[5][6][7] and pickled cod[8] are common but not especially popular meals, with fried cod being preferred instead.[9][10] Chunks of cod are included in sister's stew.[11]
House Codd wears brooches in the shape of silver codfish.[12]
Shoals of herring and great codfish are painted between the tall arched windows of the Merman's Court in the New Castle of White Harbor.[13]
History
When Lord Franklyn Farman attempted to prevent his sister Elissa from sailing away from Fair Isle, onlookers threw him into a ship's hold filled with fresh-caught cod.[14]
Corlys Velaryon sailed the Cod Queen from Driftmark to Dragonstone when he was sixteen.[15]
During the Dance of the Dragons, Lord Larys Strong helped King Aegon II Targaryen escape the fall of King's Landing. Ser Marston Waters smuggled the king to Dragonstone on a fishing skiff loaded with codfish.[16]

The great cog Noble Lady, carrying salt cod, whale oil, and pickled herring, is captured by Iron Victory in the Stepstones.[24]
