From A Wiki of Ice and Fire
The "old red man" is a species of ape native to Omboru, one of the Summer Isles, known for the red-shaded color of its pelt.[1]
Behind the Scenes
The old red man appears to be based on the orangutan, a critically endangered great ape native to the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia.
