Distribution
Spotted panthers larger than lions have been found in the rain forests of the Summer Isles, where they prowl beneath the canopies of trees.[3]

Panthers have been depicted on Westerosi banners.[4]
History
After actions taken by Malthar Xaq and other princes of the Summer Isles began a new era of exploration and trade for their people, a fashion developed amongst the dragonlords of Valyria for panther cubs from the islands.[3]

A Game of Thrones
When first laying eyes on Khal Drogo, Daenerys Targaryen thinks him as graceful as the panther in the menagerie of Illyrio Mopatis.[1] Similarly, Catelyn Stark thinks Bronn moves like a panther during a fight.[5]
A Clash of Kings
When Tywin Lannister takes his leave of Harrenhal, one of the banners Arya Stark spies traveling with his lords and captains bears a panther on it.[4]
A Dance with Dragons
Daenerys thinks Barsena Blackhair, a pit fighter in Meereen, moves with the feral grace of a panther.[2]
