Sourleaf is a plant found in the known world.

Culture

Sourleaf can be chewed in a similar fashion to chewing tobacco. Chewing the leaves can dull pain,[1] but it turns spit red[2] or pinkish[3] and can stain teeth[4][5] and fingers red.[6]

Yoren has a bale of sourleaf in his wagons when he departs King's Landing for the Wall,[1] and the wandering crow often chews leaves during the journey.[2][8] After Yoren strikes Arya Stark's thighs with a stick as punishment for her having fought with Hot Pie, he advises her to chew sourleaf to reduce the pain. It helps Arya feel better, though she thinks the plant tastes foul.[1]
