Alyn Stokeworth was the Lord of Stokeworth and the head of House Stokeworth during the reign of kings Aegon I and Aenys I Targaryen. He served as Hand of the King for both of them.[1]
History
Lord Alyn was named Hand of the King by King Aegon I Targaryen after the death of Ser Osmund Strong, the previous Hand, in 34 AC. When Aegon ordered the Aegonfort torn down and a stone castle to be built in its place in 35 AC, he assigned the task to Alyn and Queen Visenya Targaryen, while he moved to Dragonstone with the rest of his court.[1]
Lord Alyn brought his daughter Samantha to court, who became a close friend and companion of Princess Rhaena Targaryen.[1]
Aegon the Conqueror died at Dragonstone in 37 AC and Alyn remained as Hand for his son and heir, King Aenys I Targaryen. Upon Aenys' coronation, rebellions rose throughout the Seven Kingdoms. The first of these challenges was by a bandit outlaw in the riverlands known as Harren the Red, who claimed to be a grandson of King Harren the Black. First, Aenys commanded Lord Stokeworth to take a fleet and army to the Vale of Arryn to put down a rebellion instigated by Jonos Arryn and restore his brother Ronnel to his lordship.[1]
As Alyn was about to set sail to the Vale, Aenys countermanded the order, fearing that Stokeworth's departure would leave King's Landing undefended. Instead, Alyn was sent to the riverlands with a few hundred men to hunt down Harren the Red. Alyn personally led the campaign against Red Harren and successfully caught and cornered the outlaw king in a village west of the Gods Eye. In the final fight, Harren killed Alyn but was subsequently slain by Alyn's squire, Bernarr Brune. A grateful King Aenys conferred knighthood on Brune.[1][2]
