Official synopsis

As Rhaenyra looks to gain an advantage by unusual means, Daemon pressures a young liege lord to raise up his bannermen.[1]

Plot

Driftmark

On a beach Rhaenyra Targaryen confronts Addam of Hull about his recent claiming of the dragon Seasmoke. Addam bends the knee to her and divulges that he does not know if he has the blood of the dragon in him. Rhaenyra invites him to fly back to Dragonstone with her nonetheless.

Dragonstone

Rhaenyra's counsellors are worried about the idea of a lowborn man being able to ride a dragon but Lord Corlys Velaryon shuts the debate down. Corlys later congratulates Addam in private and brings the news to his brother, Alyn of Hull.

Rhaenyra and Mysaria talk about Addam's parentage and his possible lack of Targaryen blood before Rhaenyra is convinced to seek her new dragonriders amongst the smallfolk. She orders her handmaid in King's Landing, Elinda Massey, to rally as much dragonseeds as she can find in the city.

Prince Jacaerys Velaryon confronts his mother about her recent decisions. Even though Jace knows he is a bastard, he feels his dragon was the proof in the eyes of many that he is a true Targaryen and that the accusations of bastardy laid against him and his brothers in the past had no validity. If anybody can ride a dragon, then Jace feels like his legitimacy might be questioned again as well as his status as Rhaenyra's heir. Jace is also afraid that these new dragonriders could turn against Rhaenyra. The queen hears her son's arguments but remains stern in her position, the dragonseeds will have their chance to claim a dragon.

King's Landing

Alicent Hightower has her wound she received during the riot tended by Grand Maester Orwyle. She remarks that just like her new scar nothing is clean in the Red Keep. She decides to go to the Kingswood accompagnied by Ser Rickard Thorne of the Kingsguard to resource herself.

News of Addam's exploit has reached the hears of Lord Jasper Wylde though he is uncertain of its veracity. Lord Larys Strong counsels against speaking of it to the Prince Regent, Aemond Targaryen, as the two of them watch him stripping Ser Martyn Reyne and Ser Eddard Waters of their white cloaks and sending them to the Wall.

King Aegon II Targaryen has started physiotherapy to walk again with Orwyle at the behest of Larys Strong.

Rumors of Rhaenyra's search for dragonriders spread in the streets of King's Landing. Ulf is relunctant to go despite his numerous boasts of being the bastard son of the late Prince Baelon the Brave. His friends Mujja and Cley convinces him, however. Having recently lost his sick daughter and with no news of payment for his work, Hugh wants to go as well. Kat tries to change her husband's mind but to no avail. Hugh reveals to her that contrary to what he told her in the past he did know his mother. She was a silver-headed prostitute in a pleasure house and the sister of Baelon the Brave (though not explicity stated, it is implied she was Princess Saera Targaryen). During the night, the Gold cloaks loyal to Mysaria help the dragonseeds recruited by Elinda to sneak away from the capital aboard Alyn's ship.

Harrenhal

Lord Oscar Tully and the riverlords have arrived to Harrenhal. Prince Daemon Targaryen pressures Oscar to rally the riverlords to fight for him. The young Lord Paramount of the Trident is not so easily swayed as Daemon had hoped, he first wants to bring order in the riverlands and clean up the mess Daemon has made before supporting Rhaenyra. Confronted by his actions in front of the riverlords, Daemon is forced to execute Ser Willem Blackwood to appease Lord Oscar and his bannermen. Returning to his chambers Daemon has a vision of his brother, King Viserys I Targaryen, offering him the crown but Daemon refuses to take it.

The Vale

Lady Rhaena Targaryen and Rhaenyra's sons leave the Eyrie as Lady Jeyne Arryn watches on. Rhaena decides to find the wild dragon on her own.

Dragonmount

The gathered dragonseeds arrive on Dragonstone and are presented before Rhaenyra. The dragonkeepers refuse to help the bastards claiming dragons, Rhaenyra thus led them herself inside the Dragonmount where the dragons reside. She calls after Vermithor and make place for the first dragonseed, Silver Denys, to try to claim him. Vermithor rejects Denys and burns him, chaos ensue amongst the seeds. Some are burnt, some are killed and some eaten by the dragon. Hugh saves the life of a fellow seed by redirecting Vermithor's attention on him. Facing the Bronze Fury, Hugh stands his ground and show no fear which the dragon respects. Hugh is able to calm and touch Vermithor, thus forming a bond. Looking from above, Rhaenyra is glad that she has found a new dragonrider. In the midst of all the commotion, Ulf is separated from the rest and walks down a passageway. He finds Silverwing sleeping in her lair but wakes her up when he walks on a clutch of eggs. Silverwing is intrigued and is docile with the newcomer. Ulf is able to climb on her saddle and fly away towards the capital for their first flight together. When alerted of the presence of a dragon above King's Landing, Aemond takes off on Vhagar and follows Silverwing and Ulf to Dragonstone. Seeing Vermithor, Silverwing and Syrax ready to engage, Aemond orders Vhagar to return home.[2]
