Layout

The village has hovels, a well, and a small inn. Further north along the lake road is a mill.[1]

History

Ser Jaime Lannister joined the Kingsguard during the tourney at Harrenhal. After his investiture, however, Jaime was sent by King Aerys II Targaryen back to King's Landing instead of being allowed to compete in the tourney. When Jaime passed the mill, the miller's daughter smiled at the knight, and the miller himself told Jaime he was riding the wrong way for the tourney.[1] When Jaime reached the village, a dark-eyed serving wench brought him ale, apples, and cheese at the inn, and the innkeep refused to take Jaime's coin, feeling honored to have hosted a knight of the Kingsguard.[1]

Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

Lord Roose Bolton tasks Steelshanks Walton with escorting Ser Jaime Lannister, now Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, from Harrenhal to King's Landing. As they take the lake road south along the Gods Eye, Jaime recognizes the now-deserted mill and finds that the village had been burned a year or more ago during the War of the Five Kings. The homes are blackened and roofless, and weeds grow high in nearby fields. The inn has burned as well, leaving only a few foundation stones and its chimney. Walton wants to rest for a bit in the burned village, but Jaime, perturbed by its fate, insists they continue on.[1]

Quotes

It must have been a year or more since the place had been put to torch. The hovels stood blackened and roofless, but weeds were growing waist high in all the surrounding fields. Steelshanks called a halt to allow them to water the horses. I know this place too, Jaime thought as he waited by the well.[1]

It's an honor to have a knight of the Kingsguard under my roof, ser. It's a tale I'll tell my grandchildren.[1]
