Jhiqui is a Dothraki handmaid of Daenerys Targaryen.[3]

In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, Jhiqui is portrayed by Sarita Piotrowski.[4]

Appearance

Jhiqui has skin the color of copper,[3] with thick black hair[5] and almond-shaped eyes.[3] She has wide hips and heavy breasts, and is bigger boned than Irri.[6] Jhiqui is of an age with Daenerys Targaryen and Irri.[7]

Jhiqui wears loose sandsilk trousers and a painted vest.[8][9]

The handmaid is superstitious.[6][10]

History

Her father's khalasar was destroyed by Khal Drogo, and she was enslaved. Apparently, Jhiqui and Irri are sisters.[7]

At the wedding of Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen outside Pentos, Jhiqui, Irri, and Doreah are given to the bride as gifts by her brother, Viserys Targaryen, to serve as her handmaids. However, Daenerys knows that the purchase of the girls was actually provided by Illyrio Mopatis. Jhiqui's task is to teach Daenerys the Dothraki language.[3]

Traveling through the Dothraki sea, Jhiqui and Irri assure Daenerys that all dragons are long dead. On the far side of the grasslands, Jhiqui recognizes that Daenerys is pregnant.[7]

In Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys has Jhiqui prepare a bath for her, during which the handmaid washes Daenerys's hair. Jhiqui also roasts a haunch of goat with with sweetgrass and firepods.[11]

Daenerys eats a stallion heart as part of a ceremony for her unborn child, using the Dothraki phrases Jhiqui had taught her. Daenerys recalls that Jhiqui had told her the first man and first horse had emerged from the Womb of the World a million years ago. At the feast after the ceremony, Viserys threatens Daenerys and her child with a sword. Jhiqui is too frightened to translate his words for Khal Drogo, fearing the khal will punish her, so Daenerys translates instead.[12]

Daenerys's handmaids accompany her to the Western Market.[13] Jhiqui tells her a terrifying story about a maegi one night.[14]

Jhiqui informs Daenerys that Khal Drogo is too sick to ride,[15] and her tears inform also inform Daenerys that her baby was born dead.[16] Jhiqui remains with Daenerys after the death of Khal Drogo and the destruction of his khalasar.[16] At Khal Drogo's funeral, Daenerys frees Jhiqui and the other slaves who have stayed with her, making them her new khalasar. Jhiqui and the others witness the miraculous birth of Daenerys's three dragons in Drogo's pyre.[17]

A Clash of Kings

Daenerys travels with one of her dragons on her shoulder each evening, and the other two are carried behind her by Jhiqui and Irri in a cage of woven wood. Daenerys has her handmaids char horseflesh for the dragons. After struggling through the red waste, Jhiqui and Irri attempt to convince Daenerys not to stay in Vaes Tolorro, believing it haunted by ghosts.[18]

The handmaids attend to Daenerys when she bathes at Xaro's home in Qarth.[19]

After Daenerys destroys the House of the Undying, Jhiqui braids her khaleesi's hair in the Dothraki fashion and fastens a silver bell to the braid's end to mark Daenerys's victory.[20]

A Storm of Swords

Jhiqui and Irri become seasick during the voyage to Astapor.[5] According to Jhiqui, the old women and the children of Daenerys's khalasar are frightened by the sea as well.[5]

Jhiqui and Irri accompany Daenerys to the Plaza of Punishment when she is to trade Drogon for the Unsullied. Rhaegal attempts to take flight three times, so Jhiqui has to pull him down with a heavy chain. Jhiqui and Irri free Rhaegal and Viserion to attack the Good Masters when Daenerys has the Unsullied attack their former enslavers.[8]

Jhiqui and Irri pour wine when Daenerys meets with the captains of the Stormcrows near Yunkai,[21] and Jhiqui rubs knots from Daenerys's shoulders during the battle near Yunkai. They do so again near Meereen,[22]

Jhiqui praises Strong Belwas for defeating Oznak zo Pahl, the champion of Meereen.[22] Jhiqui bathes Daenerys after the fall of Meereen.[23]

A Dance with Dragons

Jhiqui and Irri advise Daenerys, now Queen of Meereen, against touching the corpse of Stalwart Shield, who was slain by the Sons of the Harpy.[6] When Daenerys is holding court at the Great Pyramid, she sends Jhiqui to the kitchens for a platter of flatbread, olives, figs, and cheese.[6]

Jhiqui and Irri both develop a crush on Rakharo, who has grown tall and muscular. They argue over which of them he would prefer.[24]

The handmaids help Daenerys prepare for her wedding to Hizdahr zo Loraq.[9]

Jhiqui brushes Daenerys's hair for the reopening of Daznak's Pit, and she chats happily with Irri about the day's matches. As the handmaids travel with the royal procession, Jhiqui expects that Goghor the Giant will win but Irri prefers the odds of Belaquo Bonebreaker.[25]

After Daenerys disappears from Daznak's Pit on Drogon's back, Jhiqui and Irri join the Dothraki who search for her across the Skahazadhan.[26]
