Irri is a Dothraki handmaid to Daenerys Targaryen.^[3]

In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, Irri is portrayed by Amrita Acharia.^[4]

Appearance and Character

Irri has skin the color of copper,^[3] with thick black hair^[5] and almond-shaped eyes.^[3] She and Jhiqui are of an age with Daenerys Targaryen.^[6] Irri is slimmer than Jhiqui.^[7]^[8]

The handmaid is loyal to Daenerys and attentive to her needs.^[9]

Irri wears loose sandsilk trousers and a painted vest.^[10]^[11] She believes that horse is the best flesh^[12] and that salt water is poisonous because horses cannot drink it.^[13]

History

Her father's khalasar was destroyed by Khal Drogo, and she was enslaved with Jhiqui, her sister.^[6]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

At the wedding of Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen in Pentos, Irri, Jhiqui, and Doreah are given to the bride as gifts by her brother, Viserys Targaryen, to serve as her handmaids. However, Daenerys knows that the purchase of the girls was actually provided by Illyrio Mopatis. Irri's task is to teach Daenerys how to ride horses in the Dothraki style.^[3]

When Viserys assaults Daenerys in the Dothraki sea, her guard Jhogo chokes him with a whip, and Irri translates to ask Daenerys if she wants him dead. Irri translates her words to her guards not to harm Viserys, but to make him walk back alone to the khalasar. Afterwards, Daenerys asks Irri if she has ever seen a dragon, but Irri and Jhiqui assure her that all dragons are long dead. Irri mocks Doreah's story about the origins of dragons.^[6]

Qotho sometimes makes Irri sob during the night.^[12]

In Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys sends Irri to the Western Market to buy fine food for a dinner she plans to have with Viserys.^[12] Daenerys's handmaids help prepare her for the stallion heart-eating ceremony for her unborn child, with Irri making her chew strips of dried horseflesh until her jaws ache.^[14]

When Daenerys's labor pains start during a ritual of bloodmagic to heal Khal Drogo, Irri reminds her that Mirri Maz Duur is a midwife.^[9]

Irri remains with Daenerys after the death of Drogo and the destruction of his khalasar.^[15] At Drogo's funeral, Daenerys frees Irri and the other slaves who have stayed with her, making them her new khalasar. Irri and the others witness the miraculous birth of Daenerys's three dragons in Drogo's pyre.^[16]

A Clash of Kings

Daenerys travels with one of her dragons on her shoulder each evening, and the other two are carried behind her by Irri and Jhiqui in a cage of woven wood. Daenerys has her handmaids char horseflesh for the dragons. After struggling through the red waste, Irri and Jhiqui attempt to convince Daenerys not to stay in Vaes Tolorro, believing it haunted by ghosts.^[17]

The handmaids attend to Daenerys when she bathes at Xaro's home in Qarth.^[18]

A Storm of Swords

Irri and Jhiqui become seasick during the voyage to Astapor.^[19] When the lonely Daenerys pleasures herself in the middle of the night, Irri wakes and stimulates her with her hand. Though Daenerys feels guilt for this, Irri believes it is an honor to please the Mother of Dragons as her handmaid.^[20] Drogon attempts to flee when Good Masters come to inspect him aboard Balerion, and the young dragon bites Irri's hand when she grabs his tail to stop him.^[20]

Irri and Jhiqui accompany Daenerys to the Plaza of Punishment when she is to trade Drogon for the Unsullied. Irri and Jhiqui free Rhaegal and Viserion to attack the Astapori slavers when Dany has the Unsullied attack their former masters.^[10]

Irri and Jhiqui pour wine when Daenerys meets with the captains of the Stormcrows near Yunkai.^[21] They do so again near Meereen,^[22] and Irri garbs Daenerys as she rules the city after its capture.^[5] When Irri again pleasures Daenerys, the queen thinks of first Drogo and then Daario Naharis.^[5]

A Dance with Dragons

Irri and Jhiqui advise Daenerys, now Queen of Meereen, against touching the corpse of Stalwart Shield, who was slain by the Sons of the Harpy.^[7] Rhaegal snaps at Irri on one occasion.^[7]

Irri helps Daenerys dress before she holds court at the Great Pyramid.^[7] and the handmaid pours wine when Daenerys meets with Xaro Xhoan Daxos.^[13]

Daenerys continues to allow Irri to pleasure her on occasion, though the queen actually desires Daario Naharis.^[23] When the sellsword returns to Meereen, Irri washes his wounds with vinegar.^[8] Daenerys takes on Daario as her paramour.^[8]

Irri and Jhiqui both develop a crush on Rakharo, who has grown more tall and muscular. They argue over which of them he would prefer.^[8]

The handmaids help Daenerys prepare for her wedding to Hizdahr zo Loraq.^[11]

Irri paints Daenerys's nails for the reopening of Daznak's Pit, and she chats happily with Jhiqui about the day's matches. As the handmaids travel with the royal procession, Jhiqui expects that Goghor the Giant will win but Irri prefers the odds of Belaquo Bonebreaker.^[24]

After Daenerys disappears from Daznak's Pit on Drogon's back, Irri and Jhiqui join the Dothraki who search for her across the Skahazadhan.^[25]
