Lord of Dragonstone
Lord of Dragonstone or Lady of Dragonstone are titles sometimes held by the noble seated at the castle of Dragonstone. These included House Targaryen prior to Aegon's Conquest and House Baratheon since Robert's Rebellion. When the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms, the heir to the Iron Throne was usually titled the Prince of Dragonstone.

History
When his daughter, Daenys Targaryen, foresaw the Doom of Valyria, Lord Aenar Targaryen moved his wives, children, sibling, other kin, wealth and slaves to Dragonstone, a castle located on an island with the same name in 114 BC. Dragonstone had been the westernmost outpost of the Valyrian Freehold for two centuries by then. By moving his family to the outpost, Aenar became the first known Lord of Dragonstone. Aenar's descendants continued to rule Dragonstone after his death.[1]
Through the Conquest, Lord Aegon Targaryen conquered the Seven Kingdoms and ruled from the Iron Throne.[1] Maegor Targaryen, the younger son of King Aegon I, was raised on Dragonstone by his mother, Queen Visenya. Because of this, people began to call Maegor the Prince of Dragonstone.[2] After Maegor left the Seven Kingdoms in exile, King Aenys I granted the title to his eldest son, Prince Aegon, in 41 AC.[2] "Prince of Dragonstone" thus became established as the title of the presumptive heir to the Iron Throne.[2][3]
This custom continued until 283 AC, when the Targaryen dynasty was ended at the conclusion of Robert's Rebellion. King Aerys II Targaryen and his eldest son, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen,[4] were slain, as were Rhaegar's children, Rhaenys and Aegon.[5][6] Aerys's sister-wife, Queen Rhaella Targaryen, had fled to Dragonstone with her younger son, Viserys, shortly before the end of the war, where she spent nine months until her own death in childbirth during a fierce storm.[7] During this time, Rhaella crowned her son Viserys as king,[8] and following the birth of his sister, Daenerys, Viserys named her Princess of Dragonstone.[7]
The Targaryen children were forced to flee before the assault on Dragonstone, however, and the castle was captured by Stannis Baratheon, the younger brother of the new king, Robert I Baratheon.[9] Robert gave Stannis Dragonstone as his seat, making Stannis the first Lord of Dragonstone in nearly three hundred years. Stannis wanted to be named Lord of Storm's End, but Robert granted that title instead to the youngest of the brothers, Renly Baratheon.[9]

A Clash of Kings
Stannis Baratheon, Lord of Dragonstone, is a claimant to the Iron Throne during the War of the Five Kings.[9]
A Storm of Swords
Following Stannis's defeat in the Battle of the Blackwater, his Hand of the King, Lord Alester Florent, attempts to negotiate with Lord Tywin Lannister, the Hand for King Joffrey I Baratheon. Without Stannis's knowledge, Alester suggests that Stannis relinquish his royal claim while remaining both Lord of Dragonstone and Lord of Storm's End. Stannis has Alester imprisoned for treason.[10]
Stannis sails from Dragonstone to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea,[11] and his army arrives in time to defeat the wildling host gathered by Mance Rayder, King-Beyond-the-Wall, during the battle beneath the Wall.[12]
A Feast for Crows
Stannis, who has been attainted,[13] remains at Castle Black.[14] Ser Loras Tyrell leads the capture of Dragonstone.[15]
A Dance with Dragons
Stannis, considered a rebel Lord of Dragonstone and pretender to the Iron Throne,[16] marches against House Bolton.[17]

- Aenar Targaryen, also known as Aenar the Exile, who led House Targaryen to Dragonstone and ruled as its lord since 114 BC.[18]
- Gaemon Targaryen, also known as Gaemon the Glorious, the son of Aenar.[18]
- Aegon Targaryen and Lady Elaena Targaryen, the children of Gaemon by his sister-wife, Daenys. Aegon and Elaena ruled together as kin and a couple.[18]
- Maegon Targaryen, a son of Aegon and Elaena.[18]
- Aerys Targaryen, Maegon's brother.[18]
- Aelyx Targaryen, a son of Aerys.[18]
- Baelon Targaryen, another son of Aerys.[18]
- Daemion Targaryen, yet another son of Aerys.[18]
- Aerion Targaryen, the son of Daemion.[18]
- Aegon Targaryen, Aerion's son. Aegon became known as King Aegon I Targaryen, Aegon the Dragon, and Aegon the Conqueror.[18] He was the last Lord of Dragonstone from House Targaryen, and the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.

Quotes
I never asked for Dragonstone. I never wanted it. I took it because Robert's enemies were here and he commanded me to root them out. I built his fleet and did his work, dutiful as a younger brother should be to an elder, as Renly should be to me. And what was Robert's thanks? He names me Lord of Dragonstone, and gives Storm's End and its incomes to Renly. Storm's End belonged to House Baratheon for three hundred years; by rights it should have passed to me when Robert took the Iron Throne.[9]
