House Smallwood of Acorn Hall is a noble house from Acorn Hall in the riverlands. Their sigil is six brown acorns on yellow.[2][3] According to semi-canon sources, their motto is "From These Beginnings"[4] The Smallwoods are sworn to House Vance,[5] but it is not confirmed if this is House Vance of Atranta or House Vance of Wayfarer's Rest.[N 1]
The lands of House Smallwood are near those that belonged to House Goodbrook.[10]

History
Lord Smallwood died fighting in King Arlan III Durrandon's campaign against King Humfrey I Teague, which included the Battle of Six Kings.[11]
During the reign of King Aenys I Targaryen, Lord Myles Smallwood fought with Lord Alyn Stokeworth in his campaign against Harren the Red. During the Faith Militant uprising, Lord Smallwood battled Wat the Hewer in the battle at Stonebridge. He later sided with Prince Aegon the Uncrowned in the Battle Beneath the Gods Eye against his uncle, King Maegor I Targaryen.[12]
At the War for the White Cloaks in 49 AC, Ser Willam the Wasp, a sworn sword of Lord Myles, was raised to the Kingsguard.[13] In 54 AC, Myles was appointed as Hand of the King by Jaehaerys I Targaryen, favored for his loyalty and prowess in battle.[12] Though he was renowned for his courage and undoubtedly well-intentioned, Lord Smallwood was ill-suited to the office and was dismissed by Jaehaerys in 57 AC.[14][15]
During the Dance of the Dragons, Lord Joseth Smallwood supported the blacks and Rhaenyra Targaryen. He briefly halted the westermen host under Ser Adrian Tarbeck in a battle near Acorn Hall.[9] Joseth later scraped together fresh levies for the Second Battle of Tumbleton.[16]
In 133 AC, Jeyne Smallwood came to King's Landing to attend the Maiden's Day Ball in hopes of marrying King Aegon III Targaryen.[17]
During the First Blackfyre Rebellion, the Smallwoods supported the Targaryens. A soldier of House Smallwood killed Addam Osgrey at the Battle of the Redgrass Field.[2] Lord and Lady Smallwood attended the wedding tourney at Whitewalls. Having some slight acquaintance with Lord Smallwood, Ser Kyle the Cat tried to ingratiate himself with him. Lord Smallwood's nephew broke his wrist during the tourney. Daemon II Blackfyre issued commands to Lord Smallwood during the tourney, suggesting he was aware of the Second Blackfyre Rebellion.[18]

A Clash of Kings
Thoren Smallwood commands the rangers of the Night's Watch after Ser Jaremy Rykker's death. He is part of the great ranging that leaves Castle Black in search of wildlings.[19]
A Storm of Swords
During the fight at the Fist, Thoren is killed by a wight bear.[20]
Lord Theomar Smallwood is off fighting with his liege lord when the brotherhood without banners stay at Acorn Hall. Lady Ravella Smallwood tells Arya Stark that she sent her daughter Carellen to her great-aunt at a motherhouse in Oldtown at the start of the War of the Five Kings. She also mentions a son, who died when he was seven years old.[5]
A tent bearing the arms of House Smallwood is spotted by Arya at the Twins before the Red Wedding.[21]
A Feast for Crows
Ser Jaime Lannister spots the banner of House Smallwood among those of the river lords who have bent the knee and now aid House Lannister in the siege of Riverrun.[22]

- ↑ House Vance of Wayfarer's Rest is the most probable overlord of the Smallwoods. A Storm of Swords mentions that Theomar Smallwood is "away fighting in the retinue of his master, Lord Vance."[5] Lord Karyl Vance of Wayfarer's Rest is active in the War of the Five Kings from its start,[6] but the old and blind Lord Norbert Vance of Atranta only appears near the end of the war at the siege of Riverrun.[7] Furthermore, in the Dance of the Dragons, the Vances were split, with Atranta supporting the greens of Aegon II Targaryen, while Wayfarer's Rest supported the blacks of Rhaenyra Targaryen.[8] House Smallwood also supported the blacks.[9]
