Jewelry is decorative items used by men and women throughout the known world to change or enhance physical appearance. Gemstones are often used to make jewelry.
Ornamentation
[edit]Jewels have been included in bodices,[1] brooches,[2] chains,[3] cloaks,[4] girdles,[5] hair nets,[6] rings,[7] and tiaras.[6][8] Maesters include jewels in their chain collars to represent the disciplines they have studied.[9][10] Dornish lords can wear jeweled belts.[11]
Women can hang jewelry from their ears,[12] and some men wear studs in their ears.[13][14] Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a merchant prince of Qarth, wears jewelry in his nose.[15] Jeweled rings can be used to bind women's braids.[16]
The wealthy can own jeweled goblets[17] and cups.[18]
Some warriors use jewels to decorate plate armor,[19] the hilts of their swords[20][21] or daggers,[22] and their scabbards.[23]
Some statues of the Seven have been jeweled.[24]
History
[edit]In the Old Way of the ironborn, raiders could only wear jewelry if they had claimed it from their defeated foes.[25]
Ser Howard Bullock is said to have taken most of his wife's jewels when he fled to Essos with his mistress, Lady Coryanne Wylde.[26]
Queen Alysanne Targaryen paid for the construction of Deep Lake by pledging her jewels.[27][28]
Ser Tywin Lannister resented that the mistress of his father, Lord Tytos Lannister, took the jewels of his late mother, Lady Jeyne Marbrand.[29]

Lysono Maar, spymaster for the Golden Company in the Free Cities, wears and inordinate amount of jewelry and cosmetics, giving him a somewhat feminine appearance. He has heavily-pierced ears filled with pearls and amethysts.[32]
