A rope is a group of yarns, plies, fibres, or strands that are twisted or braided together into a larger and stronger form.

Uses

Hemp is a plant that can be used as material to make rope, often used for executions.[1]

The towers of Pyke are connected by swaying rope bridges. The Sea Tower is accessible from the Great Keep through three increasingly narrow bridges, the last of which is made of rope.[2]

Culture

The head of the Titan of Braavos has green-dyed hempen rope for its long hair.[3] Many corsairs from the Basilisk Isles decorate their ships with severed heads dangling from hempen rope, and they deliver the skulls to Skull Isle once all the flesh is gone.[4]

Begging brothers are often dressed in threadbare or roughspun robes of undyed wool belted with hempen rope.[5][6] Ghael wears ropes of pearls and spun gold on his neck.[7]

History

The Red Princes created the Planky Town, a settlement that floats upon the river, by lashing together with hempen rope poleboats, barges, and merchant ships.[8][9]

Lord Lyonel Tyrell liked Dornish women, but one night, when he pulled the rope that would signal for a wench to come to his bed, a hundred scorpions fell from the canopy instead. His death sparked new revolts, and the conquest was undone in a fortnight.[10][11]

King Baelor I Targaryen wore white septon's robes tied off with a rope belt.[12]

Alannys Harlaw eventually began to roam the halls of Pyke in search of her lost sons, Maron and Rodrik, even walking the rope bridge to the Sea Tower while barefoot.[13]
