Qarl Corbray was the Lord of Heart's Home and head of House Corbray during the reign of Kings Maegor I and Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Jaehaerys made him the Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing at the beginning of his reign.[1]

Character

Qarl wielded the ancestral valyrian steel longsword of his house, Lady Forlorn.[2]

History

Qarl fought for Prince Aegon the Uncrowned during the Battle Beneath the Gods Eye against King Maegor I Targaryen,[3] where he killed Ser Davos Darklyn of the Kingsguard with Lady Forlorn.[2] Queen Visenya Targaryen persuaded her son to spare some of the rebellious lords but they were stripped of some lands and titles and were forced to give up hostages.[2] As Lord Qarl survived Maegor's reign,[1] it is most likely he was one of these spared lords.

After the death of King Maegor I, he was named Commander of the City Watch, as part of Jaehaerys's efforts to reconcile opposers and supporters of his late uncle.[1] Lord Qarl was one of the representants of the Vale of Arryn at the Golden Wedding.[1]

Qarl was present when Queen Regent Alyssa Velaryon dismissed Lord Rogar Baratheon from his post of Hand of the King after proposing to cast down Jaehaerys and crown Princess Aerea Targaryen. When Lord Rogar refused to be dismissed, Qarl drew Lady Forlorn, prompting Rogar to concede. Qarl also hid Princess Aerea under the orders of the Queen Regent, thus keeping Ser Ronnal Baratheon from taking her to Storm's End with the departing household of Lord Rogar.[3]

When the deadly winter plague known as the Shivers struck the realm in 59 AC, Qarl succumbed to the disease.[4]
