Raynard Ruskyn was a knight from House Ruskyn. He became Lord Commander of the Kingsguard during the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen.[1]
History
[edit]By 135 AC, Ser Raynard was a sworn brother of the Kingsguard. King Aegon III Targaryen defied an attempted coup against the Rogare family and the Hand of the King, Lord Thaddeus Rowan, beginning a secret siege. Raynard was imprisoned in Maegor's Holdfast after being overwhelmed and wounded by the Lysene guards of Larra Rogare.[1]
In the aftermath of the coup, Raynard was released from captivity, and Ser Marston Waters, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, was mortally wounded when he confronted Ser Mervyn Flowers, a fellow Kingsguard and one of the conspirators. At some point, Marston was heard to say to Raynard about Mervyn, "We are the both of us bastards and Sworn Brothers besides".[1]
Several royal offices were filled at the Great Council of 136 AC, including the promotion of Ser Raynard to Lord Commander, left vacant by Marston's death.[1]
