Malleon was a Grand Maester of the Citadel. He wrote a book on the lineages of the Seven Kingdoms, The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, With Descriptions of Many High Lords and Noble Ladies and Their Children.[1]
Malleon was likely King Daeron II Targaryen's Grand Maester, because his book was over a century old, and Eddard Stark thought scarcely a man now alive had yet been born when Malleon was working on it,[1] which suggests his time was between 100 and 120 years before Eddard's time. Moreover, Malleon's book describes the marriage of Gowen Baratheon and Tya Lannister, which occured at the end of Daeron's reign.[N 1]

Jon Arryn and then Eddard Stark use Malleon's book to discover the identity of the true father of Robert Baratheon's children.[2]
Notes
- ↑ In 298 AC, it has been "some ninety years ago" since Gowen and Tya were wed. This places their marriage around 208 AC and Daeron's reign ended in 209 AC.

1It is unknown whether "...sweet Matarys and Valarr, the Hand." indicates that Valarr was Hand, or that Matarys, Valarr, and an unnamed Hand of the King died during the Spring Sickness.
