According to Leslyn, Bella's mother was the favorite prostitute of Lord Robert Baratheon at the Peach when he hid in Stoney Sept during Robert's Rebellion; Bella is named after the Battle of the Bells.[30] King Robert I Baratheon "claimed his rights" frequently during the early years of his marriage with Queen Cersei Lannister,[31] but over time, Robert came to Cersei's bed less frequently, not even once a year, preferring to lay with whores,[32][31] with Chataya's brothel being a favorite of his.[5] Due to his frequent whoring, Robert has sired several bastards during his marriage to Cersei, though he has kept them out of sight.[33] King Robert once rejected Stannis's proposal to outlaw brothels.[34]

Whores from throughout the realm come to the capital for the Hand's tourney and surrounding festivities.[34] The surrounding roads and inns become busy as well. While returning to the north from King's Landing, Lady Catelyn Stark sees whores traveling south to the capital.[35]

Lords Stannis Baratheon and Jon Arryn visited Chataya's brothel when trying to identify bastards fathered by King Robert I Baratheon,[34] and later, Lord Eddard Stark visits the same brothel for the same reasons, finding that one of the whores has Barra, a bastard daughter of King Robert.[36]

Petyr Baelish, the master of coin for King Robert I Baratheon, owns many brothels. After Lord Eddard Stark is imprisoned by the Iron Throne, Petyr hides Jeyne Poole in one of his establishments.[37]

The camp follower Shae becomes the lover of Tyrion Lannister.[1]

A Clash of Kings

Before embarking on the great ranging, many rangers go drinking and whoring in Mole's Town. To celebrate Grenn's first ranging, Halder, Pypar, and Todder pay for his first woman. Sam and Jon are invited as well, but they remain at Castle Black.[38]

Lord Stannis Baratheon outlaws prostitution on Dragonstone.[39]

Tyrion brings Shae to King's Landing against the wishes of his father, Lord Tywin Lannister.[40] He visits Chataya's on several occasions as a front for his clandestine visits with Shae at a manse nearby.[5] During one visit, Bronn goes off with a girl from Dorne.[41] Tyrion considers bringing King Joffrey I Baratheon to the brothel so he can enjoy the girls.[42] Marei teaches her fellow prostitutes how to read, and she wagers with Dancy over the latter girl's ability to seduce Tyrion.[41]

Some whores use the Dragonpit as a place to entertain their customers and one of them, along with their patron, falls through the rotting floor into a cellar. There they find a hidden stash of wildfire, placed by Lord Rossart during Robert's Rebellion.[43]

A Storm of Swords

Anguy reveals he spent the small fortune he had won at the Hand's tourney at Chataya's brothel, enjoying lavish excesses with Jayde, Alayaya, and Dancy.[44]

The dwarf's penny is a tax imposed on prostitution in King's Landing.[45] When Tyrion is on trial for the death of King Joffrey I Baratheon, Shae claims that she was forced to pleasure him.[46] After Ser Jaime Lannister releases his brother from the Red Keep's dungeon, Tyrion kills Shae after learning she had been sleeping with Tywin. Having also learned from Jaime that Tysha had not actually been a prostitute, Tyrion kills Tywin when his father says Tysha went "wherever whores go".[47]

A Feast for Crows

Queen Regent Cersei Lannister has the Kettleblacks remove Shae's body from Tywin's room and swears she will have the tongue removed of any man who mentions the whore was ever there.[48]

During his stay at Maidenpool, Lord Randyll Tarly decides that a whore accused of giving the pox to four Tarly soldiers is to be imprisoned and have her private parts washed with lye.[49]

Masha Heddle's nephew reopens the inn, bringing in whores to attract customers.[50] When questioned by Rafford, the innkeep and his whores attribute the deaths of Gregor's men to Sandor Clegane, but Raff the Sweetling decides not to send men after the Hound.[51] When Ser Jaime Lannister arrives at Harrenhal, he requests to interview the whores from the crossroads, and then takes Pia into his entourage as a washerwoman.[51] Jaime believes she is likely barren, as she has not become pregnant after being with numerous soldiers.[52]

During the siege of Riverrun, Ryman Frey leaves the planning to his son Edwyn, so he can spend his time drinking and whoring.[53] Ryman later crowns a whore with the crown of Robb Stark, taken by House Frey after the Red Wedding, calling her queen o' whores.[54]

A Dance with Dragons

Tyrion visits a sad scarred prostitute in Selhorys.[14]

Ser Jaime Lannister arrives to end the siege of Raventree, finding Jonos abed in his tent with a camp follower named Hildy.[55]
