Gavin the Trader is among the free folkleaders who accompany Tormund Giantsbane to the Wall in declaring a truce with the Night's Watch.[1] When Jon Snow, the new Lord Commander, meets with Bowen Marsh and Othell Yarwyck, he mentions Gavin among the possible suggestions of wildling chiefs who could hold Hoarfrost Hill and Rimegate.[1] Gavin is in the Shieldhall, whispering with Harle the Handsome, when Jon announces the letter purportedly from Ramsay Bolton entitled 'Bastard'.[1]
