The fox is an animal similar to the real-life mammal. They include black foxes,[1] red foxes,[2] and white foxes.[3]

Culture

Foxes are known for being sly.[2] A red gold fox is included in the sigil of House Florent.[4] House Foxglove is a noble house from Westeros.[5]

Expensive cloaks are often lined with foxfur. Lord Petyr Baelish owns a grey silk cloak trimmed with black fox,[1] and Salloreon also owns a foxfur cloak.[6] Lady Lysa Arryn has a blue velvet robe trimmed with fox fur.[7] Lord Meldred Merlyn wears a fox-fur mantle.[8]

A sly red fox is included on the painted doors of the Seven Swords in Duskendale.[2]

Ronnel Harclay,[9] Tom of Sevenstreams,[10] Ser Shadrich of the Shady Glen,[11] Big Walder Frey,[12] and Brandon Norrey[13] are said to resemble foxes.

History

Florys the Fox is said to have been the cleverest of the children of Garth Greenhand, and Houses Florent, Ball, and Peake claim descent from her.[14]

Lord Roose Bolton was unsuccessfully hunting a fox on the Weeping Water on the day he raped the mother of Ramsay Snow.[15]

Brienne of Tarth thinks she might be hearing owls and prowling foxes in the woods at night.[11] Meribald's dog barks at a fox while Brienne's party travel along the Bay of Crabs toward Saltpans.[19]

A Dance with Dragons

Varamyr detects the faint smells of foxes and other animals in the haunted forest.[20]

Some of the Brazen Beasts of Meereen wear fox masks.[21][22]
