The walrus is a large semiaquatic mammal related to the seal.

Range

Walrus colonies can be found beyond the Wall at the Frozen Shore and along the northern coasts of Essos by the Shivering Sea.[1][2] Many walruses are found in Lorath Bay,[3] and the Bay of Tusks is well known as breeding ground for the animals.[1]

Culture

Some men of the Frozen Shore ride chariots of walrus bones[4] and wear walrus tusks on their heads,[5] and one of their leaders is known as the Great Walrus.[6]

House Farwynd of the Lonely Light and their smallfolk are rumored to be skinchangers who can can take the forms of walruses, spotted whales, and sea lions.[7][8]

Walrus tusks make up much of the trade of Lorath.[3]

History

In some legends from Lorath, the mazemakers were destroyed by walrus-men from the Shivering Sea.[3]
