The Demon of Darry was a famous knight who eventually became Lord Commander of the Kingsguard at an unknown time,[1] likely between the reigns of King Aegon III Targaryen and King Aegon V Targaryen.[Note 1] His given name has not been published, but he presumably came from Darry.

When looking around the White Sword Tower after his ascension to the position of Lord Commander, Ser Jaime Lannister studied the black oak seat of the Lord Commander and wondered how he, the Kingslayer, could be counted among such exalted company as the Demon of Darry and several other famed Lords Commander.[1]
A Feast for Crows
When discussing with the young Kingsguard knight Ser Loras Tyrell what he knows of those who served before him, Jaime mentions the Demon of Darry among the most famed past members of the Kingsguard before turning to those of more ignominious or unremarkable service.[2]

- ↑ Given that the Demon of Darry is mentioned by Jaime Lannister as one of the most exalted of the Kingsguard, the lack of any mention of him in accounts up to the early reign of King Aegon III suggests that he served in later years. He could not have served any king after Aegon V as the names of all Lords Commander since Ser Duncan the Tall, who was Lord Commander by the end of Aegon V's reign, are all known.
