What to do when you want to add to this page?
  • Is the calculation necessary?
    • Several years of birth or death are specifically stated in the canon work. Is your character not in there? Then he/she is a candidate.
  • Make certain you always put in references when you add something.
  • When you add a calculation, add your results to the character's wiki-page.
  • Does your addition replace the first name underneath a navigation box? Go to the template page to adjust the navigation box, to keep the interlinking up to date.
  • You don't want to add, but you still think a character is missing in the list? Go here and share your thoughts!

In the main series and novellas, George R.R. Martin on most occasions does not state specifically in which year a character has been born or has died. This page lists the calculations to determine such years, years of birth mostly, but also years of death at times, as specific as is possible, for all characters for all this is possible. This information then can be used in articles and serves to give a more complete image of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.

The following guidelines are used for the calculations:

  1. A character, both male and female, will be at least 12 years old at the birth of his or her first born child, for the following reason: a girl who has had her first flowering (i.e. first menstruation) is considered to be fit for both marriage and consummation of the marriage.[1] Most highborn girls have their first flowering at the age of twelve or thirteen,[2] indicating twelve as the youngest a girl can be for getting pregnant, and, as such, give birth. For boys, the same minimum age is used. Furthermore, we are given the precedence of the age of twelve for both males and females: the daughter of Unwin Peake died in childbirth at the age of twelve,[3] while Viserys II Targaryen impregnated his wife at the age of twelve.[4]
  2. Siblings are assumed to be at least one year apart in age, taking into consideration that a woman who has just given birth will not immediately become pregnant again. This is only when discussing full-blood siblings. For siblings with the same father, but with a different mother, no such recovery period is required.
  3. Where historic works are concerned which have been written by maesters, or sources recited from works written by maesters, it can be assumed that the age of a character stated in a year is the age that character would be turning that year. For example, Maegor I Targaryen was born in 12 AC. In historic works, his age in the year 25 AC will be stated as thirteen (the age he would be turning that year), without the author taking into account whether or not the described event took place before or after Maegor's nameday.[5] This goes for historical works (i.e. The Sons of the Dragon, The Rogue Prince, The Princess and the Queen, Fire & Blood, and The World of Ice & Fire), not for POV-information, like A Game of Thrones and its sequels, or The Hedge Knight, and other tales of Dunk & Egg. Do note that on some occasions, this rule might not apply.
  4. The following minimum ages for pages, squires, and knights are used, based on an overview of known ages:
    1. Boys are considered to be at least six years old when becoming a page.[6]
    2. Boys are considered to be at least eight years old when becoming a squire.[7]
    3. Men are considered to be at least fifteen years old when becoming a knight.[8]
  5. A mother will be no older than ~52 years old at the earliest possibility for the birth of her youngest child, for the following reason: the Westerosi consider the age of forty-two to be "past [a woman's] childbearing years", and forty-four to be "well past her childbearing years",[9][10][11] although women of forty-four have been known to give birth to a child.[10][11] In real-life, the end of a woman's fertile cycle (menopause) occurs at an age of 49-52 on average, giving ~52 as a maximum age for giving birth to a child.

The characters are listed alphabetically, using full names. Maesters (like Aemon), will also be listed alphabetically under their birth names, unless those are not known.

Names that belong to several characters (for example, the name Walder Frey) will be listed alphabetically, but will have their nickname or relations listed in parentheses, so they can be distinguished from one another.

For calculations on placings of events, see Calculations of Events.

Kaeth

Birth

Kaeth was eighty years old when he was raised to the office of Grand Maester.[12] This occurred in either 256 AC or 257 AC (due to his death, less than a year later, having occurred in either 257 AC or 258 AC, see below under "Death"). If Kaeth was eighty years old in either 256 AC or 257 AC, that gives him the following options:

  • 79 turning 80 in 256 AC, placing his birth in 176 AC
  • 80 turning 81 in 256 AC, placing his birth in 175 AC
  • 79 turning 80 in 257 AC, placing his birth in 177 AC
  • 80 turning 81 in 257 AC, placing his birth in 176 AC

No further specifications can be given. Kaeth was thus born in either 175 AC, 176 AC or 177 AC.

Death

Kaeth died within a year of being raised to the office of Grand Maester, after which he was replaced. His replacement, Ellendor, also died within a year of being raised to the office, which cause another replacement, Merion, to be send to King's Landing, who died on the journey over there. That was when Pycelle was raised, in 259 AC.[12]

With Pycelle having started in 259 AC, that means that Merion died in 259 AC. Merion died on the way to King's Landing, which means he was named Grand Maester either in 259 AC or in 258 AC (it is unknown how long the journey takes exactly, or in which part of the year this all occurred). This means that Ellendor died in either 258 AC or 259 AC. With Kaeth dying a little less than a year before Ellendor, places Kaeth's death in either 257 AC or 258 AC.

Kermit Tully

Birth

Kermit Tully was nineteen years old in 131 AC.[13] Following rule #3, this places his birth in 112 AC.

Kermit was thus born in 112 AC.

Death

Kermit was alive in 136 AC, when he was passed over for Hand at the gathering of lords.[4] Thus he died no earlier than 136 AC.

Kerwin

Birth

Kerwin is judged to be twenty-two years old in 300 AC.[14] That gives Kerwin the following goptions:

  • 21 turning 22 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 278 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC

No further specifications can be given. Kerwin was thus born in either 277 AC or 278 AC.

Kevan Lannister

Birth

Kevan Lannister was fifty-five years old in 300 AC.[15] This leaves two options for Kevan:

  • He was 54 turning 55 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 245 AC
  • He was 55 turning 56 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 244 AC

Kevan's younger sister Genna was born in 245 AC (see Genna Lannister). This would eliminate Kevan's option of having been born in 245 AC, placing his birth in 244 AC.

Kevan was thus born in 244 AC.

Khrazz

Birth

Khrazz is roughly 40 years younger than Barristan Selmy,[16] who was born in either 236 AC or 237 AC (see Barristan Selmy). That means Khrazz was born roughly speaking in 276 AC or 277 AC.

Kyra

Birth

Kyra is known to have been eighteen years old in 299 AC.[17] This would give Kyra the following two options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 280 AC

No further specifications can be given. Kyra was thus born in either 280 AC or 281 AC.

Kyra Frey

Birth

Kyra Frey would have been at least twelve years old when her eldest child, Walder, was born. Walder was born in 290 AC (see Walder Goodbrook), meaning that Kyra could not have been born any later than 278 AC.

Kyra would have been at least one year younger than her older brother Tytos. Tytos was born no earlier than 260 AC (see Tytos Frey), meaning that Kyra's earliest possible year of birth is 261 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Kyra was thus born in or between 261 AC and 278 AC.

Lady Butterwell

Birth

Lady Butterwell was fifteen years old when she married in 212 AC.[18] That gives her the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 212 AC, placing her birth in 197 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 212 AC, placing her birth in 196 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lady Butterwell was thus born in either 196 AC or 197 AC.

Lady Corbray

Birth

Lady Corbray is sixteen years old when she marries Lyonel Corbray in 300 AC.[19] That gives her the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lady Corbray was thus born in either 283 AC or 284 AC.

Laena Penrose

Birth

Laena Penrose was the second born child of Ronnel Penrose and Elaena Targaryen.[20] Laena would have been born at least one year later than her older sibling, Robin. Robin was born in 184 AC the earliest (see Robin Penrose), indicating that Laena could have been born no earlier than 185 AC.

As Laena's mother Elaena was born in 150 AC (see Elaena Targaryen), she would have reached the end of her child-bearing years near 200 AC, when she turned fifty. Laena was the second of the four children of Ronnel and Elaena, indicating that she could not have been born any later than 198 AC, when Elaena was fourty-eight years old.

No further specifications can be given. Laena was thus born in or between 185 AC and ~198 AC.

Lancel Lannister

Birth

In 298 AC, months into the year, Eddard Stark guesses Lancel Lannister to be fifteen years old.[21] In 299 AC, Lancel is sixteen years old.[22][23] This gives the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 298 AC, placing Lancels birth in 283 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 298 AC, placing Lancels birth in 282 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing Lancels birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing Lancles birth in 282 AC

In early 300 AC, Lancel is seventeen years old.[15]

In addition, Eddard Stark guesses Lancel to be four years older than his cousin Tyrek,[21] who was born in 286 AC (see Tyrek Lannister). This would place Lancels birth in 282 AC, eliminating 283 AC.

Lancel was thus born in 282 AC.

Lanna (Happy Port)

Birth

Lanna is fourteen years old in 300 AC.[24] That gives the following options:

  • 13 turning 14 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 286 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 285 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lanna was thus born in either 285 AC or 286 AC.

Lanna Lannister

Birth

Lanna Lannister is the daughter of Damion Lannister. Damion was born no earlier than 256 AC (see Damion Lannister). Damion would have been at least thirteen years old at Lanna's birth, as she is his second born child,[25] showing that Lanna's first possible year of birth is 269 AC.

By 299 AC, Lanna had at least two sons.[26] Although her sons were old enough to ride to battle, it is unknown how old they were. As such, it can be determined that by 299 AC, Lanna was at least thirteen years old, the minimum age for giving birth to a second son. As such, Lanna could not have been born any later than 286 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lanna was thus born in or between 269 AC and 286 AC.

Larence Snow

Birth

Larence Snow is known to be twelve years old in 299 AC,[27] and has been stated to have been near twelve during the Harvest Feast in 299 AC.[28] By late 299 AC, Larence has turned thirteen.[29] In 300 AC, Larence is stated to have been thirteen years old.[30] With Larence having been both twelve and thirteen in 299 AC, and with Larence being thirteen years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC, he was thus 12 turning 13 in 299 AC and 13 turning 14 in 300 AC. This places his birth in 286 AC.

Larra Rogare

Birth

Larra Rogare was seven years older than her husband, Viserys,[31][32] who was born in 122 AC.[33] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing her birth in 115 AC.

Larraq

Birth

Larraq is part of a group of young former slaves in training with Ser Barristan Selmy. According to Barristan, his lads are between the age of eight and twenty in 300 AC.[34]

Being eight in 300 AC gives the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 300 AC, placing their birth in 292 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 300 AC, placing their birth in 291 AC

Being twenty in 300 AC gives the following options:

  • 19 turning 20 in 300 AC, placing their birth in 280 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 300 AC, placing their birth in 279 AC

No further specifications can be given. Larraq was thus born in or between 279 AC and 292 AC.

Layna

Birth

Layna was estimated to have been eighteen years old in 298 AC by Chiswyck, but thirteen by Rafford.[35] Layna's youngest option is turning 13 in 298 AC, which would place Layna’s birth in 285 AC. Lyana's eldest option is being 18 turning 19 in 298 AC, which would place Layna's birth in 279 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Layna was thus born in or between 279 AC and 285 AC.

Leaf

Birth

Leaf claims to have seen 200 years in 300 AC.[36] That would place her birth in 100 AC, if she is being specific.

Leana Frey

Birth

Leana Frey was not yet born in late 299 AC,[29] but has been born by early 300 AC.[30]

No further specifications can be given. Leana was thus born in either 299 AC or 300 AC.

Leathers

Birth

Leathers is well past forty in 300 AC, with sons and grandsons of his own.[37] Leathers would thus be at least forty-one years old in 300 AC, and while the wording suggests that Leathers is older than that, no specification on that can be given, thus forty-one is the only number that can be stated. That would place his birth in 259 AC or before. No further specifications can be given.

Lem (Standfast)

Birth

Lem was fifty if he was a day in 211 AC.[38] He had been old enough to fight in the Blackfyre Rebellion in 196 AC. Being around fifty years old means that Lem was born around 161 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Lemore

Birth

Lemore is past forty in 300 AC.[39] This gives her the minimum age of forty-one in 300 AC, placing her birth no later than 259 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lemore was thus born in or before 259 AC.

Leowyn Corbray

Birth

Leowyn Corbray was the older brother of Ser Corwyn Corbray,[40] who was born in 100 AC (see Corwyn Corbray). Since there was at least one year in between the births of the two brothers, Leowyn could not have been born any later than 99 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Leowyn was thus born in or before 99 AC.

Lily

Birth

Lily's mother, Megette, was the mistress of King Aegon IV from 155 AC until 158 AC. Lily is listed as the second of four children.[41] This would place Lily's birth in 156 AC.

Lollys Stokeworth

Birth

Lollys Stokeworth was thirty-three years old during 299 AC.[42] Being thirty-three years old in 299 AC gives two options:

  • 32 turning 33 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 266 AC
  • 33 turning 34 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 265 AC

Lollys is also known to have been thirty-four years old in 299 AC.[29] This shows that Lollys was 33 turning 34 in 299 AC, eliminating the option of 266 AC, placing her birth in 265 AC.

Lollys was thus born in 265 AC.

Lonnel Snow

Birth

Lonnel Snow was the bastard son of Brandon Stark.[43] Brandon was born in no earlier than 140 AC and died no later than 212 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Cregan)). Brandon would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Lonnel's birth. Therefore, Lonnel could not have been born before 152 AC.

Brandon's relationship with Lonnel's mother precedes his marriage to Alys Karstark,[44] so Lonnel cannot have been born earlier than his younger half-sibling Rodwell Stark,[43] however they could have been born in the same year. Rodwell was born no later than 195 AC (see Rodwell Stark), so Lonnel was born in 195 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Lonnel was thus born in or between 152 AC and 195 AC.

Loras Tyrell

Birth

Loras Tyrell is described as being sixteen years old during the Hand's tourney in 298 AC,[45] and later also when Eddard Stark sends men after Gregor Clegane.[46] Catelyn Tully, upon seeing Loras in 299 AC, thinks he cannot have been more than two years older than Robb, who was, at that moment, fifteen, while also thinking how Loras could not yet have reached his second nameday wen Robert Baratheon won his crown in 283 AC.[47] When Tyrion is speaking with Ser Loras after the Battle of the Blackwater, but before Margaery's and Joffrey's wedding, thus in 299 AC, Loras is mentioned to be seventeen years old.[48] This could give the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 298 AC, 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, and 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing his birth year in 282 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 298 AC, 17 turning 18 in 299 AC, and 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing his birth year in 281 AC

On the day of Margaery's wedding to Tommen, in the year 300 AC, when Margaery herself is noted to be sixteen years old, Cersei notes that Loras is one year older than her.[49] With Margaery still being sixteen years old, that would make Loras seventeen years old in 300 AC, meaning that Loras was born in 282 AC, as the other option would not be possible, compared to Cersei's quote.

In addition, Jaime Lannister mentions that Loras is seventeen years old in 300 AC,[50] confirming that Loras was seventeen in both 299 AC and 300 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC.

Loras was thus born in 282 AC.

Lorcas

Birth

Lorcas has been an acolyte for fifty years in 300 AC.[51] Students at the Citadel seem to start their studies with nine as a minimum age.[52] That gives Lorcas a minimum age of fifty-nine in 300 AC, indicating that he was born in 241 AC or before.

Lord Arryn (father of Jeyne)

Birth

Lord Arryn was the father of Jeyne Arryn,[53] who was born in 94 AC (see Jeyne Arryn). Lord Arryn is also known to have had at least two sons before Jeyne. Therefore he would have been at least fourteen years old at Jeyne's birth. As such, Lord Arryn was born no later than 80 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Arryn was thus born in or before 80 AC.

Lord Dayne (father of Edric)

Birth

Lord Dayne was at least a year older than his younger brother, Arthur Dayne,[54] who was born at the latest in 260 AC (see Arthur Dayne). This means that one year earlier, 259 AC, is the last possible year of birth for Lord Dayne.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Dayne was thus born in or before 259 AC.

Death

Lord Dayne was succeeded by his son, Edric Dayne, at some point before he was sent to Blackhaven to become Beric Dondarrion's page at the age of seven.[54] As Edric was born in 287 AC (see Edric Dayne), he would have been six turning seven in 294 AC and seven turning eight in 295 AC. Therefore Lord Dayne died no later than 295 AC.

Lord Dayne could not have died earlier than nine months prior to Edric's birth in 287 AC, meaning he died no earlier than 286 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Dayne thus died in or between 286 AC and 295 AC.

Lord Frey

Death

Lord Frey was still alive by the end of The Mystery Knight which takes place in 212 AC.[55] Eventually, Lord Frey was succeeded by his son, Walder Frey.[56] Walder already ruled the Twins by 252 AC,[57] demonstrating that Lord Frey died no later than 252 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Frey thus died in or between 212 AC and 252 AC.

Lord Hightower

Birth

Lord Hightower was at least a year older than his younger brother, Otto Hightower,[58] who was born at the latest in 76 AC. This means that one year earlier, 75 AC, is the last possible year of birth for Lord Hightower.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Hightower was thus born in or before 75 AC.

Death

Lord Hightower received a letter from his younger brother, Ser Otto Hightower, early in the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen,[58] who reigned from 103 to 129 AC.[59]

Lord Hightower was succedded by his son, Ormund Hightower. Ormund was the Lord of the Hightower in 126 AC when Prince Daeron Targaryen was sent to Oldtown to be his cupbearer and squire, this means that 126 AC is the last possible year of death for Lord Hightower.[58]

No further specifications can be given. Lord Hightower thus died in or between 103 AC and 126 AC.

Lord Tarbeck (son of Alyn)

Birth

Lord Tarbeck was born a few months after the death of his father, Lord Alyn Tarbeck, who died during the Battle Beneath the Gods Eye in 43 AC.[60] Lord Tarbeck was thus born in either late 43 AC or early 44 AC.

Lord Tarbeck was sent to Casterly Rock in 47 AC.[60] A Lord Tarbeck died of the Shivers in 59 AC.[11]

No further specifications can be given. Lord Tarbeck thus died in or between 47 AC and 59 AC.

Lord Tully (father of Hoster)

Birth

Lord Tully was the father of Hoster Tully,[61] who was born at the latest in 240 AC (see Hoster Tully). Lord Tully would have been at least twelve years old at the time of the birth of Hoster. This means that Lord Tully was born no later than 228 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Tully was thus born in or before 228 AC.

Death

Lord Tully was succedded by his eldest son, Hoster Tully.[61] Hoster is known to have been the Lord of Riverrun when his daughter, Catelyn Tully, was eight years old.[62] As Catelyn was born in 264 or 265 AC (see Catelyn Tully), this means Hoster had succeeded his father by 273 AC. This means that 273 AC is the last possible year of death for Lord Tully.

Moreover, Catelyn Tully was already born at the moment of her grandfather's passing.[61] This means that 264 AC is the earliest possible year of death for Lord Tully.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Tully thus died in or between 264 AC and 273 AC.

Note: As Catelyn was too young to remember her grandfater,[61] Lord Tully's death seems to have occurred closer to 264 AC than to 273 AC.

Lord Tully (successor of Medgar)

Birth

Lord Tully is known to have been eight years old during the events of The Sworn Sword,[38] which take place in 211 AC (see The Sworn Sword), that gives him the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 211 AC, placing his birth in 203 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 211 AC, placing his birth in 202 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lord Tully was thus born in either 202 AC or 203 AC.

Death

Lord Tully was alive during the events of The Mystery Knight,[38] which take place in 212 AC.[55] He was succeeded as Lord of Riverrun by the father of Hoster Tully,[N 1] who died no later than 273 AC (see Lord Tully (father of Hoster))

No further specifications can be given. Lord Tully thus died in or between 212 AC or 273 AC.

Lorence Roxton

Birth

Lorence Roxton was one of five champions to earn their slot in the Kingsguard in 49 AC.[9] Jaime Lannister was the youngest knight to be named to the Kingsguard at the age of fifteen in 281 AC.[63][64] As such, all other Kingsguard knights who were appointed before Jaime would have been at least sixteen years of age at their appointment, indicating Lorence had been at least sixteen years old in 49 AC, placing his birth no later than 33 AC.

Samgood of Sour Hill was born in 14 BC and was the oldest of the five champions,[9] meaning that Lorence can not have been born earlier than 13 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Lorence was thus born in or between 13 BC and 33 AC.

Loreon Lannister (son of Jason)

Birth

Loreon Lannister was four when his father, Lord Jason Lannister,[13] passed in 130 AC.[65] As the source for Loreon's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Loreon's birth in 126 AC.

Loreon was thus born in 126 AC.

Loreza Sand

Birth

Loreza Sand is six years old in 300 AC,[66][67] and is mentioned to have turned seven later on in 300 AC.[68] Being 6 turning 7 in 300 AC means she was born in 293 AC.

Lorra Royce

Birth

Lorra Royce's eldest child, Donnor Stark,[43] was born no later than 213 AC (see Donnor Stark). Lorra would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 201 AC.

Death

Lorra cannot have died before her youngest child, Rodrik Stark,[43] was born. Rodrik was born no earlier than 190 AC (see Rodrik Stark (son of Beron)), so Lorra died no earlier than 190 AC.

Lothar Frey

Birth

Lothar Frey is the eldest child of Lord Walder Frey with his fourth wife, Alyssa Blackwood. Lothar's first older sibling is Raymund Frey, the youngest child of Walder Frey by his third wife, Amarei Crakehall.[27][29][30][69] Raymund was born in 264 AC or 265 AC (see Raymund Frey). As Lothar and Raymund have different mothers, it is possible they were born in the same year. As such, Lothar's first possible year of birth is 264 AC.

Lothar's first younger sibling, Jammos, was born no later than 267 AC (see Jammos Frey). Lothar would have been born at least one year before, making 266 AC the last possible year of birth for Lothar.

No further specifications can be given. Lothar was thus born in either 264 AC, 265 AC or 266 AC.

Lucas Blackwood

Birth

Lucas Blackwood was born at least one year before his younger brother, Hoster Blackwood,[69] who was born no later than 284 AC (see Hoster Blackwood).

No further specifications can be given. Lucas was thus born in or between 161 AC and 171 AC.

Lucamore Strong

Birth

Lucamore Strong was described as a young knight in 55 AC.[70] As he was knighted, this means that he was at least fifteen years old by then. This places his birth no later than 40 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lucamore was thus born in or before 40 AC.

Luceon Frey

Birth

Luceon Frey is younger than his brother Jared by at least one year. Jared was born the earliest in 248 AC (see Jared Frey), meaning that Luceon's earliest possible year of birth is 249 AC.

As Luceon and Hosteen have different mothers (Cyrenna Swann and Amarei Crakehall, respectively),[27][29][30][69] it is possible they were born in the same year, meaning that Luceon was born no later than 258 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Luceon was thus born in or between 248 AC and 258 AC.

Lucinda Penrose

Birth

Lucinda Penrose was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens were required to be under the age of thirty,[3] this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lucinda was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

Lucion Lannister

Birth

Lucion Lannister is the first born child of Damion Lannister.[25] Damion was born no earlier than 256 AC (see Damion Lannister). Damion would have been at least 12 years old at Lucion's birth, showing that Lucion’s first possible year of birth is 268 AC.

Lucion would have been at least one year older than his younger sister Lanna. Lanna was born no later than 286 AC (see Lanna Lannister). This means that 285 AC is the last possible year of birth for Lucion.

No further specifications can be given. Lucion was thus born in or between 268 AC and 285 AC.

Lucos Chyttering

Birth

Lucos Chyttering is sixteen years old in 299 AC.[29] That gives him the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC

Lucos is also sixteen years old in 300AC.[30] That eliminates the option of having been 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, leaving only the option of 283 AC for Lucos's birth year.

Lucos was thus born in 283 AC.

Luthor Tyrell

Birth

Luthor Tyrell was betrothed to Shaera Targaryen in 237 AC,[71] so he cannot have been born later than that.

No further specifications can be given. Luthor was thus born in or before 237 AC.

Death

Luthor Tyrell died at the earliest the year before the birth of his son, Mace Tyrell,[72] who was born no earlier than 256 AC (see Mace Tyrell). Therefore Luthor died no earlier than 255 AC.

Luthor was succeeded by Mace as Lord of Highgarden,[72] as Mace held the title by the time of the Tourney at Harrenhal in 281 AC,[73] Luthor could not have died any later than 281 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Luthor thus died in or between 255 AC and 281 AC.

Lyanna Mormont

Birth

Lyanna Mormont is mentioned to be "ten, or near enough to make no matter" in 300 AC.[74] This shows that Lyanna is either still nine, to be turning ten later in the year, or she already had turned ten in 300 AC. This places Lyanna's birth in 290 AC.

Lyanna Stark

Birth

Lyanna Stark had been sixteen years old when she died in 283 AC.[75] For Lyanna, this gives the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 283 AC, placing her birth in 267 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 283 AC, placing her birth in 266 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lyanna was thus born in either 266 AC or 267 AC.

Death

Lyanna Stark died shortly after the Sack of King's Landing. The Sack took place in 283 AC, around the time of the birth of Robb Stark. Since the year continues for a few more months after Robb's nameday, Lyanna thus also died in 283 AC.

Lyanna Stark (daughter of Cregan)

Birth

Lyanna Stark was the third child of Lord Cregan Stark by his third wife, Lady Lynara Stark.[43] She would have been at least one year younger than her older brother Edric, who had been born no earlier than 137 AC (see Edric Stark (son of Cregan)). As such, Lyanna could not have been born any earlier than 138 AC.

Lyanna would have been at least one year older than her younger brother, Barthogan Stark.[43] As the latest possible year of birth for Barthogan is 182 AC (see Barthogan Stark), Lyanna would have been born no later than 181 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyanna was thus born in or between 138 AC and 181 AC.

Lyanne Glover

Birth

Lyanne Glover's son, Brandon Stark,[43] was born in or between 197 AC and 223 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Willam)). Lyanne would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born in or between 185 AC and 211 AC.

Death

Lyanne Glover died in childbirth, giving birth to Brandon Stark.[76][43] Brandon was born in or between 197 AC and 223 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Willam)).

No further specifications can be given. Lyanne thus died in or between 197 AC and 223 AC.

Lyarra Stark

Birth

Lyarra Stark's eldest child, Brandon Stark,[43] was born in 262 AC.[77] Lyarra would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 250 AC.

Lyarra's older sister, Branda Stark,[43] was born no earlier than 202 AC (see Branda Stark). Lyarra would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born in or after 203 AC.

Lyarra's youngest child, Benjen Stark, was born in 267 AC or after (see Benjen Stark). Lyarra would have given birth to Benjen while she was still a fertile woman. The end of a woman's fertile cycle (menopause) occurs at an age of 49-52 on average, giving ~52 as a maximum age for giving birth to a child. As such, Lyarra would have ben 52 years old at most when her youngest child was born. As Benjen was born in 267 AC or after, Lyarra could not have been older than ~52 in 267 AC, meaning she could not have been born any earlier than ~215 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyarra was thus born in or between ~215 AC and 250 AC.

Death

Lyarra cannot have died before her youngest child, Benjen Stark,[43] was born. Benjen was born no earlier than 267 AC (see Benjen Stark), so Lyarra died no earlier than 267 AC.

Lyarra was dead in 299 AC,[78] so she died no later than 299 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyarra thus died in or between 267 AC and 299 AC.

Lyman Beesbury

Birth

Lyman Beesbury was eighty years old in 129 AC.[79] That gives him the following options:

  • 79 turning 80 in 129 AC, placing his birth in 49 AC
  • 80 turning 81 in 129 AC, placing his birth in 48 AC

As the source of information concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, eliminating the option of 48 AC, leaving only 49 AC.

Lyman was thus born in 49 AC.

Lyman Darry

Birth

Lyman Darry is eight years old in 299 AC.[27] That gives Lyman the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 291 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 290 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lyman was thus born in either 290 AC or 291 AC.

Lyman Lannister

Birth

Lyman Lannister had a bastard son, Tyler Hill,[60] who was born at the latest in 28 AC (see Tyler Hill). Lyman would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Tyler's birth, meaning that 16 AC is the latest possible year of birth for Lyman.

No further specifications can be given. Lyman was thus born in or before 16 AC.

Lymond Mallister

Death

Lymond Mallister was Lord of Seagard during the reign of King Viserys I Targayren. He was present at the tourney celebrating Viserys's accession to the Iron Throne at Maidenpool in 104 AC.[58] In 131 AC, the lordship of Seagard was held by Lord Jorah Mallister,[40] indicating Lord Lymond had passed away by then.

No further specifications can be given. Lymond thus died in or between 104 AC and 131 AC.

Lyn Corbray

Birth

Lyn Corbray is at least one year younger than his older brother, Lyonel Corbray.[30] Lyonel was born around 260 AC (see Lyonel Corbray), meaning that Lyn was born no earlier than around 261 AC.

Lyn was knighted during Robert's Rebellion,[80] which took place in 282 and 283 AC (see Robert's Rebellion). Lyn was at least fifteen years old by the time he received his knighthood. That leaves the following options for him:

  • 14 turning 15 in 282 AC, placing his birth in 267 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 282 AC, placing his birth in 266 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 283 AC, placing his birth in 268 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 283 AC, placing his birth in 267 AC

No further specifications can be given. Lyn was thus born in or between ~261 AC and 268 AC.

Lynara Stark

Birth

Lynara Stark's eldest child, Jonnel Stark,[43] was born no later than 179 AC (see Jonnel Stark). Lynara would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 167 AC.

Death

Lynara Stark cannot have died before her youngest child, Brandon Stark,[43] was born. Brandon was born no earlier than 140 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Cregan)), so Lynara died no earlier than 140 AC.

Lynesse Hightower

Birth

Lynesse Hightower was "half [Jorah Mormont's] age" in 289 AC, at the tourney held to celebrate the victory after the Greyjoy Rebellion.[81] Jorah Mormont was born around roughly 254 AC (see Jorah Mormont), and would have been roughly thirty-five years old at the time. If Lynesse was half his age, she would have been roughly seventeen and a half years old. This would place her birth around 271/272 AC, roughly.

No further specifications can be given. Lynesse was thus born roughly around 271 AC/272 AC.

Lynora Hill

Birth

Lynora Hill is the bastard daughter of Jason Lannister. According to semi-canon sources, she was conceived when Jason was fourteen years old.[82] As the source for Jasons age concerns a historical work, rule #3 can be applied. As Jason was born in 229 AC (see Jason Lannister (son of Gerold)), that places Lynora's conception in 243 AC, and therefore her birth in either 243 AC or 244 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Lyonel Baratheon

Birth

Lyonel Baratheon had been knighted by 209 AC.[83] As Lyonel would have been at least fifteen years old at receiving his knighthood, he would have been born no later than 194 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel was thus born in or before 194 AC.

Death

Lyonel Baratheon is known to have been alive in 239 AC, when Prince Duncan Targaryen broke his betrothal to Lyonel's daughter and married Jenny of Oldstones instead. By 245 AC, Lyonel's heir, Ormund Baratheon, was Lord of Storm's End, indicating that Lyonel had died by then.[71][84]

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel thus died in or between 239 AC and 245 AC.

Lyonel Corbray

Birth

Lyonel Corbray is 40-odd years old in 300 AC.[19] This indicates that he was born around 260 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Lyonel Frey

Birth

Lyonel Frey is the second son of Emmon Frey and Genna Lannister. That means he is at least one year younger than his older brother Cleos, who was born in 257 AC the earliest (see Cleos Frey). This would make one year later, 258 AC, the first possible year of birth for Lyonel.

Lyonel will have been older than his younger brother Tion by at least a year. Tion was born no later than 284 AC (see Tion Frey), meaning that Lyonel was born no later than 1 year before, in 283 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel was thus born in or between 258 AC and 283 AC.

Lyonel Hightower

Birth

Lyonel Hightower was fifteen years old in 130 AC.[13] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this would imply Lyonel's year of birth to have been 115 AC.

However, Lyonel is stated to have been fifteen years old, "on the cusp of manhood",[13] when his father died in mid-130 AC.[85] Usage of "on the cusp of" suggests Lyonel was close to his sixteenth nameday, leaving the possibility he would turn sixteen at some point during the remainder of the year,[N 2] which would place his birth in 114 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel was thus born in either 114 AC or 115 AC.

Death

Lyonel Hightower kept Samantha Tarly as his paramour for thirteen years after the reigning High Septon forbade the union as a form of incest in 130 AC.[13] As such, Lyonel could not have died before 143 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel thus died in 143 AC or after.

Lyonel Selmy

Birth

Lyonel Selmy was the father of Barristan Selmy, who was born in either 236 or 237 AC (see Barristan Selmy). Lyonel would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Barristan's birth, meaning that he could not have been born any later than 225 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel was thus born in or before 225 AC.

Death

Lyonel Selmy was the head of his house when his son and heir, Barristan Selmy, joined the Kingsguard and gave up his claim to Harvest Hall.[86][50] As this event occurred at the earliest in 260 AC (see Barristan Selmy), 260 AC is the earliest possible year of death for Lyonel.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel thus died in 260 AC or after.

Lyonel Strong

Birth

Lyonel Strong had at least four children, the eldest of which was Harwin,[58] who was born at the latest in 90 AC (see Harwin Strong). Lyonel would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Harwin's birth, meaning that he could not have been born any later than 78 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lyonel was thus born in or before 78 AC.

Lyra Hayford

Birth

Lyra Hayford was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens were required to be under the age of thirty,[3] this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC. As Lyra was accused of having smothered her infant brother in a fit of jealousy, she must have been old enough to do so, at least three years old.

No further specifications can be given. Lyra was thus born in or between 103 AC and 130 AC.

Lyra Mormont

Birth

Lyra Mormont will have been at least one year younger than her older sister Alysane, who was born in 273 AC the earliest (see Alysane Mormont). This means that Lyra was born in 274 AC the earliest.

Lyra's next sister, Jorelle, is at least one year younger than her. Jorelle was born in 289 AC the latest (see Jorelle Mormont), showing that Lyra will have been born in 288 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Lyra was thus born in or between 274 AC and 288 AC.

Lysa Locke

Birth

Lysa Locke's eldest child, Rickon Stark,[43] had been born no later than 96 AC (see Rickon Stark (son of Benjen)). Lysa would have been at least twelve years old at Rickon's birth. Therefore, the latest possible year of birth for Lysa is 84 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lysa was thus born in or before 84 AC.

Lysa Tully

Birth

Lysa Tully was two years younger than her sister Catelyn.[62] At one point, Catelyn describes a memory, during which she states that she herself was no older than Sansa (who was twelve at that time), while Lysa was younger than Arya (who was nine, soon to turn ten).[87] Sansa and Arya are said to be two years apart in age.[88][89][90] However, looking at the moment during the year their namedays take place, it is clear that Arya's nameday falls early in the year, while Sansa's nameday falls at the end of the year. So even though they are born three calendar years apart, they actually only differ two years and a few months in age, which is then rounded to two years when people are talking about it.

Looking at Catelyn's memory, she states there that she and Lysa are further apart in age than Sansa and Arya, yet she and Lysa still qualify as being two years apart in age. So Catelyn and Lysa differ nearly two and a half years in age (since anything more than two and a half years would be rounded up to three years, generally speaking). As Catelyn was born no earlier than 264 AC (see Catelyn Tully), Lysa was born no earlier than 266 AC.

Catelyn Tully was born no later than 265 AC (see CatelynTully). If Catelyn's birth fell in the first half of the year 265 AC, Lysa's birth, being between two and two and a half years later, would fall in 267 AC. If Catelyn's birth fell in the last few months of 265 AC, however, Lysa's birth could possibly fall in the first few months of 268 AC.

During Catelyn's earlier mentioned memory, she described Petyr Baelish as "even younger still" compared to Lysa.[87] As Petyr Baelish was born in 268 AC (see Petyr Baelish), this should indicate that, if Lysa had indeed been born in 268 AC, Petyr would have been born much later that year.

No further specifications can be given. Lysa Tully was thus born in either 266 AC, 267 AC, or 268 AC.

Lysara Karstark

Death

Lysara Karstark's cannot have died before her only children, twins Brandon and Benjen Stark,[43] were born. The twins were born no earlier than 198 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Artos) and Benjen Stark (son of Artos)), so Lysara died no earlier than 198 AC.

Lysara Rogare

Birth

Lysara Rogare would have been at least one year older than her younger sister, Larra.[91] Larra was born in 115 AC (see Larra Rogare), indicating that Lysara had been born no later than 114 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lysara was thus born in or before 114 AC.

Death

Lysara was alive in 135 AC.[4] No further specifications can be given. Lysara thus died in or after 135 AC.

Lythene Frey

Birth

Lythene Frey is younger than her brother Hosteen by at least one year. Hosteen was born the earliest in 248 AC (see Hosteen Frey), meaning that Lythene's earliest possible year of birth is 249 AC.

Lythene is older than her younger brother Symond by at least one year. Symond was born in 260 AC the latest (see Symond Frey), meaning that Lythene was born no later than one year before, in 259 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Lythene was thus born in or between 249 AC and 259 AC.

Mace Tyrell

Birth

Mace Tyrell is no more than ten years older than Cersei Lannister,[15] who was born in 266 AC,[77][57] indicating that Mace was born no earlier than 256 AC. Mace is older than his wife, Lady Alerie Hightower,[92] who was born no later than 264 AC (see Alerie Hightower). Mace was thus born no later than 263 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Mace was thus born in or between 256 AC and 263 AC.

Note: Though Mace and Cersei were born not ten years from each other, she thinks of him as being closer in age from her father, Lord Tywin Lannister, than her.[15] In addition to Mace, his mother Lady Olenna Redwyne, also gave birth to two daughters, Mina and Janna Tyrell,[29] but it is unknown if the sisters are older or younger than Mace. If it is the latter, Olenna would have been relatively old during the birth of her first child as she was born in 228 AC (see Olenna Redwyne), and thus was 28 years old in 256 AC. Therefore Mace Tyrell's birth seems to have been closer to 256 AC than 263 AC.

Maege Mormont

Birth

Maege Mormont's youngest daughter is ten years old. After about the age of fifty, after menopause has taken place, women can no longer give birth. This shows that when Lyanna Mormont (aged ten in 300 AC, born in 289-291 AC) was born, Maege was not yet fifty. If Lyanna was born as the last child Maege could possibly have birthed, Maege would have been born around fifty years prior, around 239-241 AC. This is the earliest Maege could have been born.

Maege's eldest daughter Dacey was born no later than 277 AC (see Dacey Mormont). Maege will have been at least twelve years old when giving birth to Dacey. This places the last moment of birth for Maege in 265 AC.

Maege tells Robb Stark, who is fifteen years old at that moment, that he was young enough to have been her grandson.[93] With each generation of women being at least twelve years old at the birth of their first child, and with Robb Stark having been born in 283 AC, Maege would have thus been born no later than twenty-four years prior to Robb, placing her birth in 259 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Maege Mormont was thus born in or between 239 AC and 259 AC.

Maegelle Frey

Birth

Maegelle Frey will be at least one year younger than her older brother Aegon Frey. Aegon was born in roughly 249 AC AC (see Aegon Frey (son of Stevron)), meaning that Maegelle was born no earlier than roughly 250 AC.

Maegelle's second child, Walder Vance, was born no later than 291 AC (see Walder Vance). Maegelle would have been at least thirteen years old when giving birth to her second born child, Walder. With Maegelle having the minimum age of thirteen when giving birth to Walder, and with Walder having been born in 291 AC the latest, Maegelle was born no later than 278 AC.

However, Maegelle's younger brother, Walton, was born in 268 AC at the latest (see Walton Frey). Maegelle is Stevron's youngest child by his second wife, Jeyne Lydden, and Walton is Stevron's only child by his third wife, Marsella Waynwood,[27][29][30] and thus, because they have different mothers, it is possible that Maegelle and Walton were born in the same year. As Walton was born in 268 AC the latest, Maegelle thus too could have been born no later than 268 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Maegelle Frey was thus born in or between ~250 AC and 268 AC.

Maegon Targaryen

Birth

Maegon Targaryen would have been at least one year older than his younger brother, Aerys Targaryen.[94] As the latest possible year of birth for Aerys is 67 BC (see Aerys Targaryen (son of Aegon)), Maegon would have been born no later than 68 BC.

Maegon Targaryen was the first child of Lord Aegon and Lady Elaena Targaryen, who were siblings.[94] As we do not know which sibling was the elder and the earliest possible year of birth for both of them is 114 BC (see Aegon Targaryen (son of Gaemon) and Elaena Targaryen (daughter of Gaemon)), Maegon would have been born no earlier than twelve years later, in 102 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Maegon was thus born in or between 102 BC and 68 BC.

Maekar I Targaryen

Birth

Maekar Targaryen's eldest son, Daeron, was born in 191 AC the latest (see Daeron Targaryen (son of Maekar I)). Maekar would have been at least twelve years old at Daeron’s birth. This means that 179 AC is the latest possible year of birth for Maekar.

Maekar's aunt Daenerys was born in 172 AC (see Daenerys Targaryen (daughter of Aegon IV)). She was born before Aerys, one of Maekar's elder brothers. That would place Aerys's birth in 172 AC the earliest (see Aerys I Targaryen). Between Maekar and Aerys is another brother, Rhaegel. That means that Maekar cannot have been born before 174 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Maekar was thus born in or between 174 AC and 179 AC.

Malazza

Birth

Malazza cannot be more than sixteen years old in 300 AC, according to Quentyn Martell.[95] That gives her the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. Malazza was thus born in either 283 AC or 284 AC.

Malwyn Frey

Birth

Malwyn Frey has been mentioned to have been fifteen in 299 AC[27][29]. This gives Malwyn the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC

Malwyn's older brother Robert was born in 283 AC (see Robert Frey (son of Raymund)). Due to Robert being still sixteen in the first months (or so) in 300 AC, and taking in account the amount of time that his mother would need to recover for a new pregnancy, this rules out that Malwyn was born in the same year as his older brother, thus ruling out the option of 283 AC.

Malwyn Frey was thus born in 284 AC.

Manfred Hightower (Aegon's Conquest)

Birth

Manfred Hightower was the father of Addam Hightower,[96] who was born at the latest in 22 BC (see Addam Hightower). Manfred would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Addam's birth, meaning that 34 BC is the latest possible year of birth for Manfred.

No further specifications can be given. Manfred was thus born in or before 34 BC.

Manfred Hightower (son of Addam)

Birth

Manfred Hightower was the father of Ceryse Hightower,[60] who was born in 2 AC (see Ceryse Hightower). Manfred would have been at least 12 years old at the moment of Ceryse's birth, meaning that 10 BC is the latest possible year of birth for Manfred.

No further specifications can be given. Manfred was thus born in or before 10 BC.

Manfryd Redwyne

Birth

Manfryd Redwyne was the father of Robert Redwyne,[11] who was born no later than 39 AC (see Robert Redwyne). Manfryd would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Robert's birth, meaning that Manfryd could not have been born any later than 27 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Manfryd was thus born in or before 27 AC.

Marei

Birth

Marei is older than Shae.[23] Shae was born in either 280 AC or 281 AC (see Shae). This means that Marei was born in 280 AC the latest, though possibly before.

No further specifications can be given. Marei was thus born in or before 280 AC.

Margaery Tyrell

Birth

Margaery Tyrell is described as a maid of fourteen years in 298 AC,[21][97] as a girl “no older than Robb” (who is fifteen years old at that moment)[47] in 299 AC and later as a girl of “fifteen or sixteen years” old during 299 AC.[98] She is described as being sixteen when she arrives in King's Landing, also in 299 AC,[72] and she is still sixteen years old on her wedding day, the first day of 300 AC.[99] This means that whilst the year turns from 299 AC into 300 AC, Margaery stays sixteen, indicating that she was 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, and 16 turning 17 in 300 AC.

Margaery was thus born in 283 AC.

Margaret Karstark

Birth

Margaret Karstark's eldest child, Benjen Stark,[43] was born no later than 124 AC (see Benjen Stark (son of Bennard)). Margaret would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 112 AC.

Mariah Stark

Birth

Mariah Stark would have been at least one year younger than her older sister, Raya Stark,[43] who had been born no earlier than 135 AC (see Raya Stark). As such, Mariah was born no earlier than 136 AC.

Following rule #5, Mariah's mother, Alysanne Blackwood,[43] was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of Mariah. As Alysanne was born in 113 AC (see Alysanne Blackwood), Mariah would have been born no later than 165 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Mariah was thus born in or between 136 AC and 165 AC.

Marianne Vance

Birth

Marianne Vance was the eldest child of Maegelle Frey. Maegelle was born no earlier than ~250 AC (see Maegelle Frey), and would have been at least twelve years old when Marianne was born. This means that Marianne was born no earlier than ~262 AC.

Marianne would be at least one year older than her younger brother Walder, who was born no later than 291 AC (see Walder Vance), meaning that Marianne would be born no later than one year before, in 290 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Marianne was thus born in or between ~262 AC and 290 AC.

Note: Marianne is mentioned to still be a maiden unwed in 299 AC and 300 AC, suggesting that she is closer in age to her cousin, Fair Walda, who was born in either 280 AC or 281 AC.

  • 11 turning 12 in 260 AC, placing his birth in 248 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 260 AC, placing his birth in 247 AC

Meribald states in 300 AC that it will be 40 years “soon”, since he has been walking through the Seven Kingdoms, which he started doing after the War of the Ninepenny Kings.[116] The War of the Ninepenny Kings had ended rather late in the year, whilst Brienne meets Meribald in the first half of the year. Meribald would have began is “walking” after the end of the war, so late 260 AC, early 261 AC.

This would place Donella's fathers birth no later than 245 AC. Since Mors Umber is said to have been older than Donella's father, Mors would have been born in 244 AC or earlier.

No further specifications can be given. Mors was thus born in or before 244 AC.

  • 17 turning 18 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 280 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 279 AC

Robert Baratheon was born in 262 AC.[77] When Eddard Stark remembers Mya's age to be either "seventeen or eighteen", he recalls that Robert was younger when fathering her.[21] While Eddard is unsure about which age is correct for Mya, he is certain that Robert was younger than she is now, indicating that Robert was younger than seventeen when conceiving Mya. Thus, Mya's conception cannot have occurred later than 279 AC, with Robert being sixteen to-be-turning seventeen later that year.

The three possible birth years for Mya would then give the following options:

  • If Mya was born in 279 AC, she was conceived in either 278 AC or 279 AC
  • If Mya was born in 280 AC, she was conceived in either 279 AC or 280 AC
  • If Mya was born in 281 AC, she was conceived in either 280 AC or 281 AC

Since Mya cannot have been conceived in 280 AC and 281 AC, she cannot have been born in 281 AC, leaving only 279 AC and 280 AC as her possible years of birth.

No further specifications can be given. Mya was thus born in either 279 AC or 280 AC.

Note: The appendix of A Storm of Swords notes Mya to be nineteen years old.[29] It is unknown whether this appendix indicates that Mya is nineteen in 299 AC (as a large portion of the book covers events taking place in 299 AC) or whether it indicates that she was nineteen in 300 AC (as the Vale appears only in portions of the story taking place in 300 AC). As such, several options are left for Mya:

  • Being nineteen in 299 AC
    • 18 turning 19 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 280 AC
    • 19 turning 20 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 279 AC
  • Being nineteen in 300 AC
    • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC
    • 19 turning 20 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 280 AC

As Mya cannot have been born in 281 AC, she cannot have been 18 turning 19 in 300 AC.

Mycah

Birth

Mycah is mentioned to have been thirteen years old in 298 AC.[90] That gives him the following options:

  • 12 turning 13 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 285 AC
  • 13 turning 14 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC

Mycah is also specified to have been one year older than Joffrey Baratheon,[90] who was born in 286 AC (see Joffrey Baratheon), and several years older than Arya Stark,[90] who was born in 289 AC (see Arya Stark). Being one year older than Joffrey means Mycah was born in 285 AC, which would make him several years older than Arya as well.

Mycah was thus born in 285 AC.

Mylenda Caron

Birth

Mylenda Caron was three times as old as her husband, Petyr Frey, when they got married.[129] During their wedding, Petyr Frey was ten years old,[129] making Mylenda roughly thirty years old at the time. In 300 AC, Mylenda is mentioned to be twice as old as her husband.[119] This allows for a calculation determining that Petyr was born in 280 AC and Mylenda in 260 AC, and that their wedding was in 290 AC (see Petyr Frey).

No further specifications can be given. Mylenda was thus born in 260 AC.

Myles Toyne

Death

Myles Toyne is mentioned to have been dead for four years in 300 AC.[130] That places his death in 296 AC.

Myranda Lefford

Birth

Myranda Lefford's eldest child, Daven Lannister,[25] was born ~272 AC (see Daven Lannister). Myranda would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than ~260 AC.

Myranda Royce

Birth

Myranda Royce is of an age of Mya Stone, in 300 AC.[19] Mya Stone was born in 279 AC or 280 AC (see Mya Stone). Myranda will have been born around those years as well.

Myrcella Baratheon

Birth

Myrcella Baratheon was seven years old during the welcoming feast in Winterfell in 298 AC.[88] She was nine years old when she was betrothed to Trystane Martell in 299 AC,[131] and ten years old in 300 AC, while residing at Sunspear.[66] Being seven in 298 AC and nine in 299 AC gives only one option: Myrcella was 7 turning 8 in 298 AC, 8 turning 9 in 299 AC and 9 turning 10 in 300 AC. Myrcella was thus born in 290 AC.

Myriah Martell

Birth

Myriah Martell was betrothed to Prince Daeron Targaryen in 161 AC.[102] At that time, Myriah had not come of age yet.[102] As the source stating Myriah had not come of age in 161 AC is a historical work, rule #3 applies. Therefore, Myriah turned sixteen at the earliest the following year, 162 AC, making 146 AC the earliest possible year of birth for Myriah.

Myriah's eldest child was Baelor Targaryen,[20] who was born in 170 AC (see Baelor Targaryen (son of Daeron II)). Myriah would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Baelor's birth, meaning that 158 AC is the latest possible year of birth for Myriah.

No further specifications can be given. Myriah was thus born in or between 146 AC and 158 AC.

Death

The last mention of Myriah is when she was stated to have become queen when her husband King Daeron II Targaryen came to the throne in 184 AC.[132] With no further specifications, Myriah thus died in either 184 AC or afterwards.

Myriame Manderly

Birth

Myriame Manderly was married to Rodwell Stark.[43] She cannot have been born after he died. Rodwell died no later than 212 AC (see Rodwell Stark), so Myriame was born no later than 212 AC.

Death

Myriame cannot have died before her husband was born. Rodwell was born no earlier than 152 AC (see Rodwell Stark), so Myriame died no earlier than 152 AC.

Myrielle Lannister

Birth

Myrielle Lannister's next older sibling, Cerenna Lannister,[25] was born no earlier than ~273 AC (see Cerenna Lannister). Myrielle would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born no earlier than ~274 AC.

Myrmadora Haen

Birth

Myrmadora Haen was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens were required to be under the age of thirty,[3] this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Myrmadora was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

Naerys Targaryen

Death

Naerys Targaryen died a year afther her bother Aemon, and during the reign of her husband, King Aegon IV.[41] Aemons first possible year of death is 178 AC, making Naerys's first possible year of death a year later, 179 AC. Aegons reign ended in 184 AC, making that Naerys's last possible year of death.

No further specifications can be given. Naerys thus died in or between 179 AC and 184 AC.

Old Nan

Birth

Old Nan came to Winterfell to nurse Brandon Stark, because his mother, Lyanne Glover, had died birthing him.[76] Brandon was born 197223 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Willam)). To be able to be Brandon's wet nurse, Nan would have been at least twelve years old at the time of his birth. As such, Nan was born no later than 211 AC, and no earlier than 185 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Nan was thus born between 185211 AC.

Narha Otherys

Birth

Narha Otherys was the middle child of the three children of Bellegere Otherys and King Aegon IV Targaryen. Bellegere and Aegon were together from 161 AC until 171 AC.[41]

This would place Narha's birth in 162 AC the earliest, at least one year after her elder sister Bellenora, and in 171 AC the latest (as she would have one younger sibling).

No further specifications can be given. Narha was thus born in or between 162 AC and 171 AC.

Norman Hightower

Birth

Norman Hightower had been knighted by 56 AC,[70] meaning that he had the minimum age of fifteen. This would place his birth in 41 AC or before. No further specifications can be given.

Norren (House Mooton)

Birth

Norren was twenty-two years old in 130 AC.[85] That gives him the following options:

  • 21 turning 22 in 130 AC, placing his birth in 108 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 130 AC, placing his birth in 107 AC

As the source for Norren's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, eliminating 107 AC. Norren was thus born in 108 AC.

Nymeria Sand

Birth

Nymeria Sand is twenty-five years old in 300 AC.[128][30] This leaves the following options:

  • 24 turning 25 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 275 AC
  • 25 turning 26 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 274 AC

No further specifications can be given. Nymeria was thus born in either 274 AC or 275 AC.

Nymor Martell

Birth

Nymor Martell was sixty years old in 13 AC.[96] As the source for Nymor's age concerns a historical work, followign rule #3, Nymor had thus been born in 47 BC.

Death

Nymor inherited the title of Prince of Dorne when his mother Princess Meria Martell died in 13 AC.[115] By 23 AC, Nymor himself had been succeeded by his daughter Deria.[115]

No further specifications can be given. Nymor thus died in or between 13 AC and 23 AC.

Obara Sand

Birth

Obara Sand is described as being twenty-eight years old in 300 AC.[30] This leaves the following options:

  • 27 turning 28 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 272 AC
  • 28 turning 29 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 271 AC

No further specifications can be given. Obara was thus born in either 271 AC or 272 AC.

Obella Sand

Birth

Obella Sand is twelve years old in 300 AC.[133] That leaves two options for Obella:

  • 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 288 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 287 AC

No further specifications can be given. Obella was thus born in either 287 AC or 288 AC.

Oberyn Martell

Birth

Oberyn Martell, according to his own account, was fourteen or fifteen years old when Tyrion Lannister had just been born. Tyrion Lannister was born in 273 AC.[77][57] That leaves several options for Oberyn Martell to have been fourteen or fifteen years old:

  • 13 turning 14 in 273 AC, placing his birth in 259 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 273 AC, placing his birth in 258 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 273 AC, placing his birth in 257 AC

This gives the years 257 AC to 259 AC as options.

Doran Martell was born in either 247 AC or 248 AC (see Doran Martell). Oberyn is known to have been born ten years later than Doran, which would give two options: either Oberyn was born in 257 AC or in 258 AC. This eliminates one possibility, namely 259 AC.

When Tyrion meets Oberyn Martell in 299 AC, he described Oberyn as a man past forty, not as a man of forty.[134] This shows that Oberyn, in 299 AC, is at least fourty-one years old, if not older. The youngest Oberyn could be at that time, was 40 turning 41 prior to meeting Tyrion in 299 AC, meaning that he was born in 258 AC or before (since Oberyn being older than 40 turning 41 in 299 AC would place his nameday earlier in the century). This cannot further specify Oberyn's year of birth.

No further specifications can be given. Oberyn was thus born in either 257 AC or 258 AC.

Note: Oberyn gives several accounts of having met Tyrion Lannister shortly after Tyrions birth. He states that Jaime and Cersei Lannister were "eight or nine years old",[134] but with Tyrions birth in 273 AC, combined with the birth of Jaime and Cersei in 266 AC, it can be seen that in truth, Cersei and Jaime would have been either six or seven years old (6 turning 7 in 273AC). This shows that Oberyn's account is rather untrustworthy, and cannot be used to narrow down his own age. Other discrepancies in Oberyn's account can also be found. Oberyn tells he was "fourteen or fifteen, thereabouts", showing that he does not even recall how old he was when he visited Casterly Rock. He also states that between the twins and him and Elia were five or six years,[135] but at another moment, he states that while Jaime and Cersei were eight or nine, he was fourteen or fifteen, and thus Elia fifteen or sixteen, giving age differences from five to eight years.

Olenna Redwyne

Birth

Olenna Redwyne was nine years old in 237 AC.[71] As the source for Olenna's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Olenna's birth in 228 AC.

Olyvar Frey

Birth

Olyvar Frey is two years older than Robb Stark,[136] and is known to have been eighteen in 299 AC.[27][29] Olyvar was seventeen years old in 299 AC as well. With Olyvar having been both 17 and 18 in 299 AC, Olyvar was thus 17 turning 18 in 299 AC, which places his birth in 281 AC.

Olyvar Martell

Birth

Olyvar Martell was born after Doran Martell, but before Elia Martell.[128] Doran was born in 247 AC the earliest (see Doran Martell), and Elia Martell in 257 AC the latest (see Elia Martell). Olyvar would thus have been born at least one year after Doran, but one year before Elia, placing his birth in or between 248 AC and 256 AC.

Death

Olyvar Martell died in the cradle, before the birth of Elia Martell.[128] That places his death in or between 248 AC and 257 AC, since Olyvar could have died in the same year that Elia was born.

Ormond Yronwood

Death

Ormond Yronwood was the Lord of Yronwood when Prince Doran Martell made the plan of sending his young son, Prince Quentyn Martell, as a ward to Yronwood to settle a blood debts between Houses Yronwood and Martell.[137] Since Quentyn was born in 281 AC (see Quentyn Martell), it means 281 AC is the earliest possible year of death for Ormond.

Ormond was eventually succeded as Lord of Yronwood by his son, Anders Yronwood.[68] Anders was the Lord of Yronwood when he knighted the eighteen-year-old Quentyn Martell,[138] which would have been taking place in 299 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ormond Yronwood thus died in or between 281 AC and 299 AC.

Ormund Baratheon

Birth

Ormund Baratheon was the father of Steffon Baratheon, who was born in 246 AC.[84] Ormund would have been at least twelve years old at Steffon's birth, meaning he could not have been born any later than 234 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ormund was thus born in or before 234 AC.

Ormund Hightower

Birth

Ormund Hightower's eldest son, Lyonel,[13] was born in 115 AC the latest (see Lyonel Hightower). As Ormund would have been at least twelve years old at Lyonel's birth, he could not have been born any later than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ormund was thus born in or before 103 AC.

Orryn Baratheon

Birth

Orryn Baratheon was ten years older than Alysanne Targaryen,[9] who was born in 36 AC.[60] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Orryn's birth in 26 AC.

Death

Orryn Baratheon married the Archon's daughter in 51 AC. When her father’s term as Archon ended, Orryn left for Myr and died soon after.[139]

No further specifications can be given. Orryn thus died in 51 AC or after.

Orys Baratheon

Birth

Orys Baratheon was appointed Hand of the King in 1 AC.[94] Ser Tywin Lannister was the youngest ever to be appointed at that position at the age of twenty in 262 AC.[77] Therefore Orys was at least twenty-one years old in 1 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Orys was thus born in or before 20 BC.

Oscar Tully

Birth

Oscar Tully was the younger brother of Kermit Tully.[13] As Kermit had been born in 112 AC (see Kermit Tully), Oscar would have been born no earlier than one year later, in 113 AC.

Oscar had been knighted in 131 AC.[13] As he would have been at least fifteen years old at receiving his knighthood, Oscar was born no later than 116 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Oscar was thus born in or between 113 AC and 116 AC.

Death

Oscar was alive in 131 AC, when he set sail for Tyrosh.[140] Thus he died no earlier than 131 AC.

Osmund Frey

Birth

Osmund Frey is mentioned to be two years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC.[27][29][30] Being two years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC, means Osmund was 1 turning 2 in 299 AC, and 2 turning 3 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 297 AC.

Osric Umber

Birth

Osric Umber had at least one child.[43] The child could not have been born later than the year after his death. Osric died no later than 226 AC, so the child was born no later than 227 AC. Osric would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so he was born no later than 215 AC.

Death

Osric Umber was married to Arrana Stark, with whom he had at least one child.[43] Osric cannot have died earlier than the year before the child was born. Arrana, born no earlier than 154 AC (see Arrana Stark), would have been at least 12 years old at childbirth. Therefore the child was born no earlier than 166 AC, and Osric died no earlier than 165 AC.

Osric was Lord of Last Hearth.[141] By 226 AC, Harmond Umber was the Lord,[142] so Oscric died no later than 226 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Osric thus died in or between 165 AC and 226 AC.

Otto Hightower

Birth

Otto Hightower had several children, including Alicent and her younger brother Gwayne.[58] Otto would have been at least twelve years old in 88 AC, the year of Alicent's birth (see Alicent Hightower). Therefore, Otto had been born no later than 76 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Otto was thus born in or before 76 AC.

Ottyn Wythers

Birth

Ottyn Wythers is known to have been of an age with Jeor Mormont,[143] who was born in 230 AC (see Jeor Mormont). "Off an age with" does not mean that Ottyn was born in the same year as Mormont, but around the same time, possibly differing a few years. No further specifications can be given about Ottyn. His birth is thus placed in roughly in the year 230 AC.

Patchface

Birth

Patchface's freedom was bought by Lord Steffon Baratheon when he visited Volantis in 278 AC.[144][77] At the time, Patchface was described as a boy capable of singing in four tongues.[144]

Patchface still being named a "boy" in 278 AC, implies he would not yet been sixteen years old, the age of majority. Patchface was at the most fifteen turning sixteen in 278 AC, which would place his birth in 262 AC.

Patchface capable of singing in four tongues in 278 AC, implies he was no longer a babe. Patchface was at least three years old in 278 AC, placing is birth at the latest in 275 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Patchface was thus born in or between 262 AC and 275 AC.

  • 7 turning 8 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 292 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 291 AC

No further specifications can be given. Pate was thus born in either 291 AC or 292 AC.

Pate (novice)

Birth

Pate has been at the Citadel for five years in 300 AC,[145] indicating that he arrived in 295 AC. Pate is known to have been thirteen years old upon his arrival at the Citadel,[145] which gives him the following options:

  • 12 turning 13 in 295 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 13 turning 14 in 295 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Pate was thus born in either 281 AC or 282 AC.

Pate the Woodcock

Birth

Pate the Woodcock was one of five champions to earn their slot in the Kingsguard in 49 AC.[9] Jaime Lannister was the youngest knight to be named to the Kingsguard at the age of fifteen in 281 AC.[63][64] As such, all other Kingsguard knights who were appointed before Jaime would have been at least sixteen years of age at their appointment, indicating Pate had been at least sixteen years old in 49 AC, placing his birth no later than 33 AC.

Samgood of Sour Hill was born in 14 BC and was the oldest of the five champions,[9] meaning that Pate can not have been born earlier than 13 BC.

Note: Pate was the youngest of the five champions,[9] he was most likely born during the reign of King Aegon I Targaryen.

No further specifications can be given. Pate was thus born in or between 13 BC and 33 AC.

Pate (Standfast)

Birth

Pate was old enough in 211 AC to have been fighting in the Blackfyre Rebellion in 196 AC.[38] Fighting is usually done from the age of fifteen years old or older,[38] so Pate will have been fifteen years old in 196 AC, meaning he had been born by 181 AC at least. In 211 AC, people older than fifty were not wanted for the upcoming fight. This means that Pate could not have been older than fifty in 211 AC, meaning that he was born the earliest in 161 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Pate was thus born in or between 161 AC and 181 AC.

Patrek Vance

Birth

Patrek Vance is at least one year younger than his brother Walder. Walder was born in ~263 AC the earliest (see Walder Vance), meaning that Patrek cannot have been born earlier than one year later, in ~264 AC.

Patrek is not mentioned to have been a babe during 299 AC or 300 AC, meaning he was at least 5 during the events of 299 AC[N 3]. This would make Patrek turning 5 in 299 AC the minimum of his birth range, placing his birth no later than 294 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Patrek was thus born in or between ~264 AC and 294 AC.

Patricia Redwyne

Birth

Patricia Redwyne was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens were required to be under the age of thirty,[3] this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Patricia was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

Paxter Redwyne

Birth

Paxter Redwyne is older than his wife[92] Mina Tyrell,[29] who was born no later than 270 AC (see Mina Tyrell). Paxter was thus born in or before 269 AC.

Note: Paxter was in charge of the fleet from the Reach at the siege of Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion (282-283 AC).[146] It is unlikely he would have been trusted with this task if he was born in 269 AC, as it would have only been thirteen at the time. Paxter was thus born before 269 AC.

Penny

Birth

Penny is guessed to be "seventeen, eighteen, no more than nineteen" by Tyrion Lannister in 300 AC.[147] That gives Penny the following options:

  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Penny was thus born in either 281 AC, 282 AC or 283 AC.

Perianne Moore

Birth

Perianne Moore was the same age as Princess Saera Targaryen in 82 AC,[11] who was born in 67 AC.[11] As the source for Perianne's age is a historical work, rule #3 applies.

Perianne was thus born in 67 AC.

Perra Frey

Birth

Perra Frey has been mentioned to have been five years old in 299 AC[27][29] and in 300 AC.[30] This would mean she was 4 turning 5 in 299 AC, and 5 turning 6 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 294 AC.

Perra Royce

Birth

Perra Royce gave birth to her first child in either 233 AC or 234 AC (see Stevron Frey). She would have been at least 12 years old when Stevron was born, which means she was born no later than 222 AC.

Following rule #5, Perra was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child, Perriane Frey,[27] who was born no earlier than 239 AC (see Perriane Frey). Therefore Perra would have been born no earlier than ~187 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Perra was thus born in or between ~187 AC and 222 AC.

Death

Perra Royce's last child was born in 239 AC the earliest (see Perrianne Frey). Perra’s husband, Walder Frey, had remarried by at least 249 AC, since his eldest child with his second wife was born in 249 AC the latest (see Jared Frey).

This means that Perra had been married to Lord Walder Frey at least from 234 AC until 239 AC. They might have gotten married earlier, there are no further indications for that. Since her husband had remarried by 249 AC, this year is the last possible year for Perra to have been alive.

No further specifications can be given. Perra thus died in or between 239 AC and 249 AC.

Perriane Frey

Birth

Perriane Frey is younger than her brother Aenys by at least one year. Aenys was born the earliest in 238 AC (see Aenys Frey), meaning that Perianne's earliest possible year of birth is 239 AC.

Perianne is the youngest child of Walder Frey by his first wife, Perra Royce.[27][29][30][69] Her younger brother Jared, born in either 248 AC or 249 AC (see Jared Frey), is the eldest child of Walder Frey by his second wife, Cyrenna Swann.[27][29][30][69] As Perianne and Jared have different mothers, it is possible that they were born in the same year, meaning that Perianne was born no later than 249 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Perianne was thus born in or between 239 AC and 249 AC.

Perwyn Frey

Birth

Perwyn Frey's elder sister Tyta was born in 269 AC or 270 AC (see Tyta Frey). As Perwyn and Tyta have different mothers (Bethany Rosby and Alyssa Blackwood respectively),[27][29][30] it is possible they were born in the same year. Thus, 269 AC is the first possible year of birth for Perwyn.

Perwyn's younger brother Olyvar was born in 281 AC (see Olyvar Frey). Between Perwyn and Olyvar are two brothers, meaning that Perwyn's latest possible birth year is 278 AC, three years before Olyvar.

No further specifications can be given. Perwyn was thus born in or between 269 AC and 278 AC.

Petyr Baelish

Birth

When Petyr Baelish was "scarcely fifteen", Brandon Stark was twenty years old.[105] It is known that Brandon Stark died at the age of twenty in 282 AC,[148] and that he was born in 282 AC.[77] That means that Brandon would have been twenty years old in both 282 AC (19 turning 20), and in 283 AC (20 turning 21). As Brandon died in 282 AC, this shows that the duel took place in 282 AC.

Petyr Baelish was described as "still shy of 30" in 298 AC.[105] This shows he was still 29 years old in 298 AC, though it is possible he turned 30 later that year, leaving the options:

  • 28 turning 29 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 269 AC
  • 29 turning 30 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 268 AC

"Still shy of 30" could suggest Petyr was even younger than 29 in 298 AC, which would place his birth more recently in the timeline.

Petyr's age in 282 AC is described as "scarcely fifteen"; However, several interpretations are possible. If Petyr was indeed fifteen years old in 282 AC, he would have been born in either 267 AC (14 turning 15 in 282 AC) or 266 AC (15 turning 16). As both options would have made Petyr thirty or older when meeting with Catelyn in 298 AC, it would seem that this interpretation of "scarcely fifteen" is not the correct usage.

However, "scarcely" can also be defined to mean "barely; hardly; not quite", indicating that the description of "scarcely fifteen" suggests that Petyr had not yet been fifteen years old at the time of the duel, but fourteen. This would give the following option:

  • 13 turning 14 in 282 AC, placing his birth in 268 AC

As previously established, Petyr cannot have been 14 turning 15 in 282 AC, as it would place his birth before 268 AC.

Petyr Baelish was thus born in 268 AC.

Note: Should Petyr have been younger than twenty-nine during 298 AC, his nameday would have occurred later (269, 270 etc.). As seen above, it would not be possible for Petyr to be either fourteen or fifteen during the time Brandon was twenty if this was the case, since it would lead to Petyr being turning 14 after Brandon had already died.

Petyr Frey

Birth

According to Edmure Tully, Petyr Frey is "a year or two" older than Robb Stark,[129] who was born in 283 AC (see Robb Stark). Being one year older than Robb Stark would place Petyr's birth in 282 AC, being two years older would place his birth in 281 AC.

Petyr has a daughter, who was born in 294 AC (see Perra Frey). With the minimum age of twelve at the birth of a firstborn child, this would place Petyr's birth in 282 AC or before.

However, Petyr married his wife Mylenda Caron at the age of ten, when she was three times his age.[129] Mylenda is also mentioned to be twice as old as her husband in 300 AC.[119] This information clarifies matters, because now we can use two linear equations to solve the variables:

p = Petyr's age at wedding
m = Mylenda's age at wedding
x = years since wedding

m = 3p
m + x = 2 (p + x)

Solving:
m + x = 2p + 2x
m = 2p + x
3p = 2p + x
p = x

if p = 10
then x = 10

Therefore Petyr was 10 then, 20 now; Mylenda was 30 then, 40 now.

Petyr being twenty in 300 AC and ten in 290 AC gives him the following options:

  • 19 turning 20 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 280 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 279 AC

As Robb Stark was born in 283 AC, this eliminates Petyr's option of having been born in 279 AC, as four years is too much to be an estimate of "a year or two older".

Petyr was thus born in 280 AC.

Pia

Birth

Pia was a young girl during the Tourney at Harrenhal of 281 AC when she saw Jaime Lannister.[149] Being a young girl and recalling that event means that Pia had past her infancy and was at least three years old at the time. This also means she had not reach the age of majority (16 years old) yet. That gives Pia the following options:

  • 2 turning 3 in 281 AC, placing her birth in 278 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 281 AC, placing her birth in 265 AC

No further specifications can be given. Pia was thus born in or between 265 AC and 278 AC.

Podrick Payne

Birth

Podrick Payne was twelve years old in 299 AC.[150] That gives Podrick the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 286 AC

No further specifications can be given. Podrick was thus born in either 286 AC or 287 AC.

Prince of Dorne (father of Maron)

Birth

The Prince of Dorne was the father of Myriah Martell,[102] who was born no later than 158 AC (see Myriah Martell). He would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Myriah's birth, so he could have been born no later than 146 AC.

No further specifications can be given. He was thus born in or before 146 AC.

Death

The Prince of Dorne made peace with King Baelor I Targaryen in 161 AC.[102] Therefore, he could have died no earlier than 161 AC.

He was succeeded by his son, Maron Martell, as Prince of Dorne and Lord of Sunspear.[132] As Maron is known to have been the ruling Prince of Dorne by 174 AC,[41] Maron's father could have died no later than 174 AC.

No further specifications can be given. He thus died in or between 161 AC and 174 AC.

Princess of Dorne (mother of Doran)

Birth

The Princess of Dorne gave birth to her first child, Doran Martell, in either 247 or 248 AC (see Doran Martell). The Princess was at least 12 years old at Doran's birth. Thus, she was born no later than 236 AC.

She gave birth to her last child, Oberyn Martell in either 257 or 258 AC (see Oberyn Martell). A mother is no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child. Therefore, the Princess was born no earlier than ~205 AC

No further specifications can be given. The Princess of Dorne was thus born in or between ~205 AC and 236 AC.

Death

According to Oberyn Martell, the Princess arranged Elia Martell's betrothal to Rhaegar Targaryen,[135] which was announced in 279 AC. The Princess's son, Doran Martell, was the ruler of Dorne by the time Elia married Rhaegar in early 280 AC.[77]

No further specifications can be given. The Princess of Dorne thus died in either 279 AC or 280 AC.

Prudence Celtigar

Birth

Prudence Celtigar was one of the two daughters of Lord Edwell Celtigar. Her sister was Prunella Celtigar.[60][9] It is not know which sister was the eldest, but it is know they were twelve and thirteen in 47 AC.[60] As the source of their ages concerns a historical work, following rule #3, Prudence was born in either 34 AC or 35 AC.

Prunella Celtigar

Birth

Prunella Celtigar was one of the two daughters of Lord Edwell Celtigar. Her sister was Prudence Celtigar.[60][9] It is not know which sister was the eldest, but it is know they were twelve and thirteen in 47 AC.[60] As the source of their ages concerns a historical work, following rule #3, Prunella was born in either 34 AC or 35 AC.

Pycelle

Birth

Pycelle mentions he was fourty-two years old when he was chosen as King Aegon V’s Grand Maester.[12] He also mentions he served King Aegon V for a few short months, until Aegon's death in 259 AC.[12] Pycelle is eighty-four years old in 300 AC.[12]

  • 41 turning 42 in 259 AC, placing his birth in 217 AC
  • 42 turning 43 in 259 AC, placing his birth in 216 AC

And

  • 83 turning 84 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 216 AC
  • 84 turning 85 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 215 AC

The only overlapping year is 216 AC. Pycelle was thus born in 216 AC.

Pylos

Birth

Pylos is mentioned to have been no older than twenty-five in 299 AC.[144] Being twenty-five years old in 299 AC gives the following options:

  • 24 turning 25 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 274 AC
  • 25 turning 26 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 273 AC

No further specifications can be given. Since Cressen is not certain whether Pylos is actually twenty-five years old in 299 AC, but gives twenty-five as a maximum age for Pylos in 299 AC, we can assume that Pylos is absolutely no older than twenty-five at that moment, but might be a few years younger. Thus it can be concluded that Pylos was born in either 273 AC or 274 AC, possibly a few years later.

Qalen

Death

Qalen died when Theon Greyjoy was a ward at Winterfell, in between his depart from Pyke in the aftermath of the Greyjoy's Rebellion in 289 AC and his return in 299 AC.[151]

No further specifications can be given. Qalen thus died in or between 289 AC and 299 AC.

Qoren Martell

Birth

Qoren Martell's eldest child, Aliandra,[115][91] was born in 115 AC (see Aliandra Martell). Qoren would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Aliandra's birth, placing his birth no later than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Qoren was thus born in or before 103 AC.

Death

Qoren Martell is known to have still been alive in 129 AC.[115] In 132 AC, Princess Aliandra Martell, his eldest child, is known to have very recently come into power.[115][140]

No further specifications can be given. Qoren thus died in or between 129 AC and 132 AC.

Quenton Greyjoy

Birth

Quenton Greyjoy was the second son of Quellon Greyjoy.[152] Thus, he would have been at least one year younger than his older brother Harlon. Harlon was born no earlier than 253 AC (see Harlon Greyjoy), placing Quenton's birth no earlier than one year later, in 254 AC.

Quenton would have been at least one year older than Donel, Quellon's third son.[152] Donel was born in 262 AC the latest (see Donel Greyjoy), indicating that Quenton was born no later than one year prior, in 261 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Quenton was thus born in or between 254 AC and 261 AC.

Quenton Hightower

Death

Quenton Hightower died when Grand Maester Pycelle was still a boy learning at the Citadel of Oldtown.[153] As Pycelle was born in 216 AC (see Pycelle), he reached the age of majority in 232 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Quenton thus died in or between 216 AC and 232 AC.

Quentyn Blackwood

Death

Quentyn Blackwood was killed three years prior to the Ashford Tourney in 209 AC,[83] placing his death in 206 AC.

Quentyn Martell

Birth

Quentyn Martell mentions he is eighteen years old during 300 AC.[154] This leaves the options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC

Quentyn received his knighthood at the age of eighteen,[155] prior to leaving Dorne. Quentyn receiving his knighthood cannot have happened in 300 AC. Quentyn refused his uncle Oberyn to knight him, accepting knighthood from Lord Anders Yronwood instead.[66] Since Oberyn Martell travelled away from Dorne in late 299 AC[134] and did not return alive, Quentyn's refusal of Oberyn occurred in 299 AC. Secondly Lord Anders cannot have knighted Quentyn in 300 AC, as he went with his army to the Prince's Pass in 299 AC,[156][157] while Quentyn remained at Yronwood,[154][158] demonstrating that Anders would have knighted Quentyn in 299 AC, prior to departing Yronwood. Thus, as Quentyn was knighted in 299 AC, and was 18 upon receiving his knighthood, he would have been eighteen years old in both 299 AC as well as 300 AC, thereby demonstrating that Quentyn was thus 17 turning 18 in 299 AC and 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC.

Quentyn Martell was thus born in 281 AC.

Quort

Birth

Quort was judged to be no older than fourteen years old in 299 AC. He already has conceived a child.[159]. Since boys become fertile from the age of 12, Quort will have been between the ages of twelve and fourteen in 299 AC, placing his birth in or between 285 AC and 287 AC.

Qyburn

Birth

Qyburn is mentioned to not be as old as Pycelle.[160] Pycelle was born in 216 AC (see Pycelle). This places Qyburn's birth no earlier than 217 AC, but most likely later. No further specifications can be given.

Qyle Martell

Birth

Qyle Martell was the younger brother of Aliandra Martell,[91] who was born in 115 AC (see Aliandra Martell). Since Aliandra and Qyle were not twins, there is at least one year in between their births. Thus 116 AC is the earliest possible year of birth for Qyle.

In 132 AC Qyle was angered by the attention his sister Aliandra lavished upon Lord Alyn Velaryon.[91]

No further specifications can be given. Qyle was thus born in or between 116 AC and 132 AC.

Note: In 132 AC, the regents of Aegon III suggested "a younger brother of the Princess of Dorne" as a potential husband for Lady Baela Targaryen.[140] If Qyle is this younger brother, it would imply he was born closer to 116 AC than to 132 AC.

Notes

  1. Based on Walder Frey's year of birth (208 AC see Walder Frey) and his statement regarding having survived four Lords of Riverrun, with Lord Edmure Tully being the fifth he has known (A Storm of Swords, Catelyn VI). Medgar would be the first of the five, his successor the second, and Hoster the fourth, indicating that one more Lord of Riverrun ruled between them. This Lord Tully was Hoster's father, as he is known to have rule Riverrun before Hoster (A Storm of Swords, Catelyn IV).
  2. Prince Jacaerys Velaryon was said to be "on the cusp of his fifteenth nameday" in late 129 AC, and turned fifteen later that same year (Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons - The Red Dragon and the Gold).
  3. Rickon Stark is still called a babe at the age of 4, making that the known minimum for being a babe
