Apple are the edible fruits of apple trees.
Culture
Apples can be eaten by themselves or be prepared in cuisine, including baked apples,[1] dried apples,[2] apple crisps,[3] applecakes,[4] apple tarts,[5] stewed apples,[6] applesauce,[7] buns,[8] oatbread,[9] and in salads.[10][11] Apples are sometimes included in bowls of brown.[12]
Cider is a popular alcoholic beverage made from fermented apples.[13] Wine can be made from green apples.[14]
Apples are included in the sigils of House Fossoway of Cider Hall and House Fossoway of New Barrel.[3] Ser Derrick Fossoway, one of the Ninepenny Kings, was known as the Bad Apple.[15] An apple tree is included in the arms of House Appleton of Appleton.[16]
History
Foss the Archer, a legendary son of Garth Greenhand, is remembered for shooting apples off the heads of maids he fancied.[17] Rowan Gold-Tree, one of Garth's legendary daughters, is said to grown a tree from an apple wrapped in her golden hair.[17]
According to Septon Barth, Lady Florence Fossoway's bookkeeping skills came from "counting apples since she learned to walk".[18]
Queen Daenaera Velaryon was the target of an assassination attempt when the crusts of her apple tarts were poisoned.[19]
Ser Arlan of Pennytree often gave apples to Chestnut. When Ser Duncan the Tall sold Sweetfoot to Henly, he gave a few [[currency|coppers] back so that the horse could have some oats and an apple.[20]

Lord Petyr Baelish eats an apple and tosses it into the Blackwater Rush while waiting for Lord Eddard Stark.[22] Eddard learns from Jon Arryn's former stableboy that Lord Arryn always brought carrots and apples for his horses.[23] Eddard sees farmers selling apples at the market near the River Gate.[23]

Queen Regent Cersei Lannister recalls that the boar which had killed King Robert I Baratheon was served with mushrooms and apples at his funeral feast.[26]
